WE ARE SHOCKED!

Just look at the number of cars and traffic in the area - yet no one cared.
The number of cars parked near the dog - yet no one cared.
The poor boy - lost his life in vain.
We are posting this with a very heavy heart. A friend, Eileen, who is an independent rescuer called us this morning to say that someone had informed her of a dog that had met with an accident in PJ – somewhere in Taman Megah. This is Eileen’s message after the dog had been found dead. She had also sent some pics.

The dog died right in front of a newly opened cafe in Taman Megah nearby to Lim Kok Wing institute. He has a collar on. Was believed to have been hit by a car, Both rear legs have been crushed and can't move. Have been there for several days but no one came forward to help. Somebody left a packet of rice but doubt the poor boy could move to eat. What has our society come to??? Poor dog in terrible suffering May he RIP. May his death not in vain but help raise awareness that people can do something for injured dogs.

The person who had called told her he was informed the dog, which had a shattered leg, had been lying there for the last three to four days. We are shocked – why didn’t anyone even bother to help this poor dog. What about its owners – did they know that their dog was missing? We made immediate arrangements to rescue the dog but when the caller went back to the scene this afternoon, the poor dog was dead. However, it was still alive when he had passed by in the morning. We shudder to think the pain, fear, hunger and thirst the poor dog must have endured these last few days. Why didn’t anyone even think about calling the SPCA, PAWS or even us – as we are certain that there would have been many people who had seen this dog. What is most appalling is that people can actually sit and eat at the restaurant while the dog was lying there dying! If anyone of you happen to come across this blog posting –SHAME ON YOU! Dogs are mammals just like us that also undergo all the pain and emotions that we are capable of experiencing. Had he been rescued on the day of the accident or even the second or third day – the dog may still be alive. So, we beg you people – next time you see an injured animal on the streets – don’t look the other way. Help it! If its money that you don’t want to spend – you can always call us for a reimbursement – we will pay you back even if it takes our entire month’s salaries. This lack of apathy towards animals in need of help is indicative of a defective society. We just can’t believe that not even one person had cared enough to help. To motorists, next time you hit a cat or a dog – please do the right thing – doesn’t just drive or scoot off. RIP doggie – we wish we had known of you earlier.

I am truly shocked too. The 3 guys in the first picture why didn’t they stop and help. Anyone who has seen this dog lying there helplessly and still alive choose not to do anything to me is seen as cruel and heartless person. They should all be ashamed of themselves including those people who run their business there.
It is so similar to KTM case. When will we ever wake up to compassion? Malaysians shame on you!!

Post it to The Star so that more people are aware that they should help or at least call the authorities who will help if and when they come across such cases. Not many people know of organisations like MDDB. I remembered I called up bomba (animal rescue department) of a dog in distress along the MRR2 highway (poor dog was there for at least 2 days) but was told by one chap that they don't do rescue and ask me rescue the dog myself!!

How appalling that the poor dog lost his live due to people's ignorance and just by sending the dog to the clinic a live could have been saved and this is only one of such sad/cruel cases that we may know of and hundreds or thousands more cases that we are not aware. But all things can be changed if only 'we' pay more attention to these poor beings and we can truly make a difference just by doing our part and not turn a blind eye the next time! RIP doggie and shame on those who came across this dog but did not anything to help!

I stayed at Miri for 3 months and during that time I saw hundreds of starving dogs left behind by their inconsiderate owners after their contracts had ended with Shell Miri. I could only feed tens of them after work but it left a lasting impression on me, how cruel and selfish the Miri-Lutong rich town folks were. Rescued a couple of dogs and flew them home to KL but had to leave the rest behind.

But what was most heart wrenching was the attitude of one private Vet. A stray dog had been hit and left to die near a coffee shop in the hot sun. There were tens of people having lunch close by, it was impossible not to notice the immobilized, panting and suffering dog.

By the time one of my colleagues informed me, she was already paralysed with a swollen head. Brought her to the Vet who I had recently spent more than Rm800 to treat some of the stray dogs I was feeding. She refused to even look at this paralysed dog which I brought her clinic. You know what she said? Please get the dog out of my clinic before the other dog owners got scared of the paralysed stray dog which had a serious case of mange. The vet was more worried about loosing business than treating the poor dog. I understand she graduated from UPM. I never use her service again.

I cared for the paralysed dog for 2 days but was advised by my Vet in KL to have euthanised to put her out of her misery. When I took her to the MIRI vet dept, the first thing they said was "did you knock her down?" They could not believe that a Samaritan would take the trouble to care for an injured stray dog and carried her around from Lutong to Miri for 3 days trying to put an end to her misery to no avail. Finally after getting thru all the nonsense, they admitted that they had not euthanised any hit-and-run dog (victim) before. It was only after I had pleaded with the Resident Staff Vet in his lush office (after waiting more than an hour for him to arrive) that they finally agreed to euthanize the poor dog and charge me for it. As I reached out my wallet to pay, the Resident Vet must have felt embarrassed and waved his hand to his staff to waive off the charge on condition that I disposed of the dead body. After the dog finally passed, I brought it back to Lutong for burial.

So I am not surprised at your story. Still I am very sad. This is the first time I come across your organization. I am banking in some money into your account right away. If you are in need of more funds, can you please let me have more details of your organization and work you do to help these poor animals.

Attn: Dog Breeders, money is not everything. There's already too many stray dogs looking fr homes. Why breed and destroy more lives? Do u or anybody possibly take money together with u when u die? why dont print money and eat that???
To: potential dog owners, ask yourself... does ur family members agree wif u to buy a life? Today u buy a dog because your girlfriend ask for it... What if u break up??? U just chuck off that life right??? Am really ashamed to call myself a human being, because of u selfish idiots.
