Goodbye Brianna

We received some very heartbreaking news this morning. Brianna is no more. She succumbed to her severe tick fever and we are truly shattered upon hearing the news. The vet tried everything possible - she was just too weak and too traumatized. To Mr. Bow-and-Arrow as well as dog haters who want all dogs dead, hope this piece of news makes you happy. This was a very very sick dog, and Brianna's condition was further aggravated by the trauma of being shot at. Wherein lies compassion? Brianna would have been happy had she survived and stayed with us, but sadly this was not meant to be. At least her last days were filled with warmth and kindness. To the owners who abandoned her, you are just as bad as Mr. Bow-and-Arrow. May all of you burn in the fires of hell if there is indeed such a thing. R.I.P. Brianna - you are now free from all the pain and torture that rankled the twilight years of your life. Rest well at the Rainbow Bridge until your rescuers meet you there.

Rest in Peace, Brianna...
Brianna's final hours were comfortable because Allan Chong, the young man who had put himself in jeopardy by going all out to help the poor old dog. It was Allan who had brought Brianna to AMC first. When we heard that she died, Allan rushed to the veterinary clinic to say his goodbye before the undertakers came to remove her remains.

Pics of Allan Visiting Brianna One Final Time and Her Remains Being Taken for Cremation
These are the follow-ups:

  1. We would be having a memorial for Brianna soon when her ashes arrive and we will notify of the venue. We hope to have a big turnout as a show of solidarity against animal abuse. We hope rescuers from other states will also join us.
  2. We are waiting for the police to call us. They have been calling us several times a day, always beginning late afternoon. Now that Brianna is dead, we believe the avenue for action is using the bow and arrow in a public place.
  3. We have a Plan B as well. If you are a lawyer who wants to help with our Plan B, please email your contact details to mddb.updates@gmail.com

So far, we have only received 15 police reports. Can we have more? We need a strong voice. Showing our anger only on Facebook will not change the situation. We need police reports please.

Saya ingin membuat lapuran tentang insiden di mana seekor anjing baka Rottweiler telah dipanah oleh seorang penduduk di Taman Sinaran, Taming Jaya. Kejadian itu berlaku lebih kurang pukul 8.30 hingga pukul 9 malam pada 13/5/2014 di mana lelaki tersebut telah memanah anjing berkenaan dengan dua anak panah yang terkena pada kaki dan belakang. Berikut ada sebab-sebab saya membuat laporan ini;

Terima kasih.

Go to your nearest police station in whichever state or district you are and ask them to forward the report to the Kajang District Police Headquarters. They cannot turn you away. Once the police report has been made, please email your name and report number to mddb.updates@gmail.com

Thank you!

A Bow-and-Arrow Attack

Allan called us on the 13th of May 2014 to alert us about his neighbor who had shot two arrows at a dog.

Dog Shot Once in Its Front Leg and Once in Its Back

The Alleged Dog Shooter
The dog, named Brianna (a.k.a. Bree) which means "strong", was rushed to Animal Medical Centre (AMC) for emergency treatment. The vet at AMC treated the wound, but refused to admit Bree overnight as she was heavily infested with ticks. We brought Bree back to our Halfway Home where she was given a tick bath the next day, before we admit her to one of our regular vet clinics for further treatment.

The Two Arrows Removed from Bree's Leg and Back

Bree at Animal Medical Centre
Besides being partially blind and suffering from hip dysplasia, Bree was diagnosed with anemia and severe tick fever, as well as tested positive for heartworms. She appears to be a Rottweiler.

Bree at Our Regular Vet Clinic
The case is currently under investigation and we would like to advise the public against taking the matter into your own hands. We have done the necessary - now it's the authorities' turn to do their part. Remember... When you go overboard with your harassment, they become the victims and you become the aggressor. The reversal of roles will only flush the case down the loo.

Two Officers from the Kajang Police Station Interviewed the Vets from the Two Clinics that had attended to Bree

A Dead Man's Wish

One of our regular donors who lives in the UK frantically contacted us on the 27th of February 2014 after receiving a suicide note from her friend - a 58-year-old German man living in Malaysia. A copy of the suicide note was forwarded to us, and the late German man had pleaded for his dogs and cats to be rescued.

While we were on our way, the police (who arrived at the scene first) confirmed the man's death, and notified us that the local council was there with private canine bounty hunting company - Vetfine - to confiscate the dogs. We immediately sent the officer in charge a copy of the late German man's suicide note which clearly stated that he could not bear to be alive to see his dogs being taken away. We are indeed very grateful that the police respected the wish of the deceased and prevented the dog catchers from capturing his dogs.

At the Late German Man's Rented Premises

We successfully removed SEVENTEEN dogs from the late German man's home - one is placed under foster care, one rehomed during our Monthly Adoption Drive at The Summit, USJ in March, four at our place, and the remaining eleven boarded at a kennel.

First to be Adopted to a New Home

We now need to remove the dogs from boarding as we promised we would. Our agreement with the management of the kennel was to remove the dogs by end of April, as the kennel needs the space to take in several long-term boarders early May. They have been very kind to allow us to keep these dogs there for this long, have taken great care of the dogs, and have been very patient with us for the delay in payments. To date, we owe them a whopping RM16,000!

Total Amount Owed

We are in urgent need of foster carers or adopters to take them in temporarily or give them permanent homes. All the dogs have been vaccinated, desexed and trained. We will be at G-Pet on the 1st of May, 2014 (Thursday) at 12:00pm. If you are able to help in any way, please meet us there. The address is Lot 1, Jalan Bukit Rimau, Bukit Rimau, Shah Alam.

Donations towards their boarding fees are also urgently needed. Please refer to details below for payment methods:

Because I'm Happy!

On the 27th of December, 2013, a resident of Skudai, Johor discovered a dog with a disfigured face and contacted MDDB. Innumerable maggots squirmed around what used to be the dog's snout. A distress notice was immediately posted on our Facebook page to alert nearby community volunteers.

Spotted in Skudai, Johor
It did not take long for one of our followers to respond to the emergency. She admitted the dog at a vet in Johor who administered morphine in the dog for pain relief. The vet was clueless as to how old is the dog due to its missing teeth.

Rescued
Two days later, the poor soul was transported from Johor to Petaling Jaya, Selangor where its facial mass and the dead skin surrounding the wound were surgically removed. The vet also got rid of every single maggot that was eating its flesh. Fortunately, its facial bone structures were not damaged, and the dog merely lost its button nose. Its nostrils are still intact, which means the dog will not have difficulties eating or drinking.

Day 3
On New Year's Day, this little tyke earned herself a name to suit her perky, jaunty personality - HAPPY! Well, despite the severe pain and misfortune, she is, after all, still... HAPPY!

HAPPY!

Happy is currently receiving long-term treatment at the veterinary clinic. She will continue to undergo minor skin graft surgeries to guide the growth of her new skin. If you would like to contribute to the fund to help offset Happy's medical expenses, kindly refer to the details below:
