APPEAL FOR HELP

JUST as we thought we can take a little breather after seeing through Napoleon and Mimi Chitta’s case – we now have four new cases to handle.

Three involves surgery and amputation whilst one involves a horrific maggot wound and severe tick fever.

Given that we are all dry after the previous cases, we are left with no choice other than appeal to your generosity to pay for the treatment of these unfortunate dogs.

Please help us help these unfortunate animals.

CASE 1

He deserves to live

We received a call from Kuantan, Pahang seeking help to treat a puppy that had suffered severe spinal injury.

Apparently the puppy had been brutalized by some goons and as a result had a broken spine and pelvis.

Currently the puppy has no sensation in its hind legs and tail but we feel there is hope in the event a surgery is performed to counter the fracture. The people who rescued the puppy in Kuantan are also going all out to save the puppy’s life and we are giving them our full support.

We have promised them that we will undertake the cost of the veterinary care and have spoken to the vets who will be carrying out the surgery.

The vet, who is one of the two people in Malaysia who are experts in spinal surgery, said we would first have to take an MRI and after checking the cost we were told that this would cost us RM1, 500. We will be arranging for an MRI this Sat at Gasing. If all goes well the puppy will be operated on and this is going to cost us more money.

Looking at the puppy’s face in the pix sent to us, the right thing to do is to give it every chance to overcome the ordeal.

The vet, who will be doing the surgery, told us that there is a chance for the puppy if it’s given the necessary treatment. So, people please help us give this puppy a second chance in life.

Those who want to help the puppy can make cheques out to Community Development and Integration Initiative Bhd or Brickfields Veterinary Medical Center Sdn Bhd and mail the cheques to: No 48, Jalan Jeriji U8/75C, Bukit Jelutong, 40150, Shah Alam, Selangor.

CASE 2

Last week Jeff Soon informed us about a dog that was going around with a gaping wound on its head and leg. We tried to get the dog Coby rescued but it went missing for a few days only to emerge again about two days ago. The sight of Coby's injuries shocked the MDDB rescuers that had gone to capture the dog. Coby's head wound had festered into a pulp and stank like a clogged sewage. Its leg wound was equally bad. Coby was immediately taken to the vet and several hundred maggots were pulled out from both wounds. His paw was so eaten by maggots that the bone could be seen and the dog may also be facing amputation. To make matters worse Coby also suffers from tick fever and we have been advised to prepare ourselves to arrange for blood transfusions. The extent of the dog’s two maggot wounds is also terrible and we believe that this dog has to spend a long long time at the veterinary clinic. We are again asking your help to help Coby through his painful ordeal. Those who want to help Coby the dog can make cheques out to Community Development and Integration Initiative Bhd or Brickfields Veterinary Medical Center Sdn Bhd and mail the cheques to: No 48, Jalan Jeriji U8/75C, Bukit Jelutong, 40150, Shah Alam, Selangor.

CASE 3

Blackie is an accident victim who was dumped by his owner who did not want to treat him. A kind neighbor alerted us and we asked his help to secure the dog and bring it to one of our panel clinics. The dog’s injured leg was badly crushed and the only option according to the vet is amputation. The dog is currently at the veterinary clinic pending amputation which is going to cost us the money we do not have. Please help us help Blackie. He needs all the help he can get.

Those who want to help Blackie can make cheques out to Community Development and Integration Initiative Bhd or Healing Rooms Veterinary Clinic Sdn Bhd and mail the cheques to: No 48, Jalan Jeriji U8/75C, Bukit Jelutong, 40150, Shah Alam, Selangor.

CASE 4

Cleo was rescued by our MDDB members about three months ago. She is a Golden Retriever whom we believed is a product of unscrupulous breeding. Cleo terribly deformed and has only one eye, hip dysplasia, and also under-weight. She also has two benign tumours on her body. Cloe will be crippled if surgery is not carried out on her to correct her hip problem. Her surgery has been scheduled this month and we hope that you can help us see Cloe’s surgery through. She is unable to walk much because of her hip problem.

Those who want to help Cleo can make cheques out to Community Development and Integration Initiative Bhd and mail the cheques to: No 48, Jalan Jeriji U8/75C, Bukit Jelutong, 40150, Shah Alam, Selangor.

PLEASE HELP US HELP THIS UNFORTUNATE DOG

Dog at the clinic
No sensation in one hind leg
Stuck in the culvert
On the day of her rescue

About two weeks ago we received a call from a lady in Damansara that an injured dog was lying by the side of the kerb. Our volunteers rushed to the scene and found the dog unable to move and they think she must have been hit by either a car or a motorbike. She was also partially stuck in the opening at the edge of the culvert. They managed to get her out and rushed her to Mayo Clinic in Subang Jaya. An X-ray was taken and it showed injuries to two parts of her back bone. She has some sensation in one of her hind legs and has no sensation in the other hind leg. Both her front limbs are ok. She is still in Mayo Clinic and we are waiting for Dr. Susanna Brida-Hofherr to return from overseas on Friday, July 2. Dr Brida-Hofherr is a certified veterinary acupuncturist and may be able to help the dog. We are also hoping the dog will lose some weight as this will help her recover better. Please help us help this poor girl with her treatment.

Oh, no - not again!

Just as we were heaving a sigh of relief that Lester was finally on the road to recovery, our close friends Leigh and Joanne - who are veteran independent rescuers sent us an S.O.S. They had rescued a dog with a deep maggot wound on its head and needed help for its veterinary care.
Apparently the dog, whom they named Rolex, was found in Tasik Permai Ampang, with a big swollen maggot wound on its head. Rolex was wearing a collar and given this - Leigh and Joanne think his owner must have turned him out because of his condition. He is believed to be anywhere between 2 to 5 years of age. According to Leigh -the blood test done on Rolex indicated that he may also be suffering from tick fever. He now needs extensive medical care for his maggot wound which probably needs skin grafting due to its depth and he also suffers from mange. About 200 maggots were removed from the wound.
We have pledged to pay for his medical bills and need your generosity and help to see him through his ordeal. Rolex is currently admitted at a veterinary clinic in Subang Jaya.
Please help us to help him - if you are sending us a cheque please write Rolex at the back of the cheque. If its an online transfer - please mention Rolex as well. You can also call 019-3576477 and tell us the amount and time the donation was made. Please help R0lex - help us give him a chance to live out the rest of his life.

Pound Puppies and Dog

Cindy, on the road to recovery after her wound had been cleaned out.
The little pup's urine with was thick with blood - probably urinary tract infection. Thank go our friend Mandy is fostering it.
The little puppy who is skin and bones. She has distemper and corona.

The pound puppy looking for food.

The little Gremlins huddled-up at the clinic after being tested.

Another frightened little pup that was infested with ticks.

Waiting at the vets after rescue - this puppy had probably been starving for days.

Waiting at the vets

At the vets

Positive for distemper and corona

At the vets - this pup tested negative but did not have any appetite today

Distemper and Corona

This pup tested negative but is coughing and has blood in her feces

We are desperate. We have placed six sick puppies with fosterers and need more people to take in the rest until they are well. they four that tested negative yesterday seem to have other problems - one has a prolapsed anus, another is coughing and a third seems to have lost its apetite.
We also have six puppies which are so traumatised that they have become little monsters of sorts. Its starting all over for us and we are going to be horribly strapped for cash as treating these pups can be very expensive.
We are thankful that a friend and fellow rescuer has taken in the mother dog and four pups for us temporarily. We also have Cindy with the facial wounds to care for in addition to the distemper, parvo and corona cases.
To make matters worse - we have our healthy puppies at the half way home that are pending adoption. We do not want to compromise on their well-being and need to get them adopted as soon as possible. Please help. Our apologies for the pics being all mixed-up - but the captions will explain. The puppies had rafia string tied around their necks to identify the infections - blue for parvo, green for distemper and yellow for corona.
You'll note that some of the puppies have nore than one coloured string and this means that they have multiple infections.

HELP

We rescued this male dog - a hit and run victim - from Kajang about a week ago. He has a badly fractured right front limb as well as an infected left eye. According to our vet, he is very week and his injured limb would take some time to heal. The injured front limb is now in a cast. According to the person who had alerted us, the dog had been lying by the side of the street for several days without anyone bothering to help. We are hoping that someone would come forward to help with its medical expenses as all our resources are currently being sucked-up by the medical care of our distemper puppies. Please write to malaysiandogadeservebetter@gmail.com or call 019-3576477 for details.

Please help us help this dog

During our reconnaissance trip to Pulau ketam three weeks ago, we came across this dog which belonged to a rather well-to-do family. They had a big compound but yet choose to place their dog across the street from their house. The dog was kept boarded-up in a tiny cubicle which had no entrance or exit. The makeshift prison was perched on the jetty and given its poor condition may topple into the sea anytime. We hope that this will not happen as if it does, the dog will surely drown. During our trip, we fed the dog about 20 char siew paus. the starving dog gulped down the food in a blink of an eye. During our trip on Thursday we knew why - we saw the dog being fed with only leftover white rice - most of the rice thrown to it fell through the gap of the cage leaving the poor dog with hardly much too eat. According to the daughter-in-law of the house, the dof had been kept boarded up even before she came to the house as a new bride seven years ago. We want to get the dog out of its hell hole and need help to do so given the expenses involved. We would also probably have to buy the dog from its current owners - as they do not want to give it to us. We would also have to hire a boat which will cost us anywhere from RM300 to RM500 to get the dog off Pulau Ketam. Going by the dog's physical condition - we would deefinetely have to admit him to a veterinary clinic for prolonged treatment. We thought of getting Furry Friend's Farm to rescue the dog for us but they cannot in anyway antagonize the people there as they have to rely on the boats owned by Pulau Ketan residents for their own rescue mission. So, we understand their position on this. So, please people, please help us free this dog from its suffering. We have to do it quick because the owners may resort to getting rid of the dog now that we have approached them for it. Details: 019-3576477
