Another weekend tragedy

We received a call from a young man in Subang Jaya late last night that he had spotted a dog with a severe maggot wound on its face. We told him to feed the dog for the night and bring it to us today. Accompanied by Christine, the young man and his mother brought the dog to our Klang panel vet and we were horrified to see maggots literally crawling out of the dog's face. We thought the well built male dog must have been injured in a fight but after the vet cleaned out the wound, he found it was a ruptured tumour that had fastered into four holes in the face. Further examination also revealed that the tumour had 'eaten' its way right through to the dog's top gum near the molar. He is obviously in pain and has been given pain killers and antibiotics and will be treated for a few days to determine if the tumour is benign or malignant. The dog's breathing was also raspy because of the ruptured tumour. We hope it is good news for this dog and if the tumour is benign there's nothing to worry as it would be just like treating a very large abscess. Please keep your fingers crossed for some good news. Was this fellow someone's dumped pet?

Citta is doing well

Citta going for a walk with Dr Chan
Citta is eating and that great news. We were worried as she had not been eating since the incident because her sense of smell has been compromised and were contemplating of shoving some steamed chicken into her mouth to stoke her taste buds. But we don't have to do that anymore since she is eating on her own. We have asked Animalcare's Dr Chan to keep and eye on Citta as both Animalcare and MDDB share the same panel vet in Subang Jaya. The vet apparently explained the two tubes inserted into Citta 'nose' was to keep the nasal passage from closing up as well as to enable her to breathe properly. Thanks KY for the good news, excellent photos as well as taking Citta out for a walk. Citta is a gutsy girl and we are confident that she will overcome her disability.

Why was Roman on the highway?

While we were on our way to Semenyih with the hope of confronting the retard that had looped off Citta's nose, Rena (who was driving) caught sight of a puppy along the highway leading to Semenyih. It was under a flyover and Rena reversed the car towards the puppy. Myers then jumped out of the car and cautiously befriended him so that he will not take fright and run into the heavy oncoming traffic. He managed to carry the puppy into the car and the markings as well as colour indicated that this fellow may be a cross between a Doberman and a Rottie. So, we named him Roman. So, what the heck was Roman doing under a flyover along a busy highway? He was very clean and did not smell like how a stray would normally smell, meaning that he probably had a good bath a day or two ago. And he knew how to sit in a car. Anyway, we took Roman to the scene of the confrontation and once we were done in Semenyih, Roman went of to stay with Myers. We had plans to neuter him before putting him up for adoption. However, this plan has to be temporarily shelved as the vet found Roman to be anemic due to severe worm infestation. Apparently he had several varieties of worms happily living in his gut. If any of you know who Roman is please call 019-3576477. Was Roman abandoned?

This Shih Tzu is fine now and ready for adoption. The two lumps found on her were ovarian cysts and that has been surgically removed and she has also been spayed.

She is healthy now and must be removed from the vet. We are hoping that someone will come forward to adopt her.

Those interested in adopting her please call 019-3576477. Thanks KY for taking the pics for us.

Another abused dog in Semenyih.

When Reco and Mikheala went to Semenyih to get Citta (whose nose had been sliced off by a scoundrel) they saw this dog tied up in the same area. Apparently this dog is kept tied there without shelter and just lies down starring blankly whether its blazing hot or pouring with rain. So, when we went there on Thursday, we spoke to the owner and asked her why she was so unkind to her poor dog. The lady said she had tied the dog there only for a few hours and usually kept it in her car porch. But all her neighbours refuted this and said the dog was kept tied there all the time. The family also seldom feeds the dog but fortunately the kind neighbours have been giving it food. When we confronted her, the woman said the dog was dumped on her by a woman who ran a sundry shop nearby. Little did she imagine that we would go to the sundry shop to confirm this. The sundry shop owner showed us a dog that is currently with her (the sundry shop owner) and said she had initially given the woman that dog but had taken it back because she had kept it tied-up outside the house. The shopkeeper also added that as soon as she had taken the dog back, the perpetrator had gone and gotten herself another dog (the one that's currently suffering). Throughout our conversation this witch had lied through her teeth. We want to take the dog away but need a temporary foster home for her. Can anyone help? Please call 019-3576477.

CLEO the golden retriever and her health issues

http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2011/07/golden-retriever-found-in-damansara.html

Remember Cleo who was found in Damansara recently? Well she's being fostered by Mikheala and Reco. Mikheala informed us that Cloe is sick and had refused to eat and upon rushing her to the vet they were told that the poor pup had probably been ill treated and not properly cared for since she was born. She is also suffering from worm infestation and a blood test indicated that she also had parasitic infection. This has resulted in a low hemoglobin count which is indicative that she is anemic. She also has to have a surgery due to an irregularity in her pelvic bone but we do not know how soon she can be ready for the surgery. We can only keep our fingers crossed
that all will be well for Cleo.

Deformed puppy

Jessy Lian wrote to us sometime last week saying there was a disabled puppy living in an empty house near her place. She's been feeding him and became attached to the puppy but cannot take it home for various reasons. So we have taken the puppy in and will be putting him up for adoption. The male puppy is about 4 to 6 months old and is very charismatic, cheerful and playful and his is of no hindrance to him. We have named him Patrick and will be vaccinating him in a couple of days. According to the vet, Patrick was born disabled with the knee and thigh bones of his right leg being fused together without a joint. As a result his right leg cannot be bent. He's a lovely fellow and is up for adoption immediately as he is healthy without any skin or health problems.

JESSY with Patrick at our panel clinic in Klang

Patrick's bones in the right leg are fused and without a kneecap.

Anyone interested in adopting handsome Patrick, please call 019-3576477.

She will survive without a nose

We are happy to say that the dog whose nose had been looped off is doing well. Thanks to our excellent vets. Since we we off to Semenyih today to hunt for the prime suspect, we asked Animalcare's Dr Chan to do us a favour by visiting the doggie and taking some pics. We are happy with what we heard from Dr Chan as well as what we saw in the pictures. SHE WILL SURVIVE BECAUSE SHE IS A SURVIVOR! And we name her Citta which means "heart and soul" as suggested by Dr Chan because she has touched both our hearts and soul with her tenacity to survive. Our only concern is that she is not eating well and this is attributed to her either decreased or completely wiped sense of smell due to the tragedy. Perhaps we will try to goad her to eat by placing a piece of steamed chicken into her mouth. Citta is a young and healthy dog and she will learn to live with her deformity. Furthermore, animals learn to cope and adjust to their physical inadequacies better than us human beings. Anyway, coming back to our trip to Semenyih, we met the family that owned both Citta and her mother. Its a sad story of a family breaking-up with both parents living in separate homes nearby. Apparently the dogs break out and ply to and from both houses as they are attached to both individuals. These people are from the lower income group and not very educated and therefore do not really know how to care for pets such as compulsorily neutering them etc. Their neighbour, our prime suspect, has also been complaining about the dogs but he nor his family members were there for us to speak with. We also noticed the the fencing dividing both homes was a simple chain link (is that what they call it?) fence and we are seriously thinking of sponsoring clip lock zinc to be attached to the chain link so that the neighbours will not be agitated by the mummy dog's sight simply because they would not be able to see her. We will also arrange for the mother to be picked-up on Sunday to be sent to the same clinic where the daughter is being treated for spaying as we would like her to see Citta and know that she is still alive.

The evil human who cut off this dog's nose will rot in hell

Healthy and fat dog
Nose being held by a piece of skin

We received a call from a tearful young woman this morning saying that one of the dogs she feeds in her neighbourhood in Semenyih had had its nose looped off. The young lady Ain, who is pregnant, begged us to rescue the dog and said she was exhausted from crying after seeing its condition. She said the dog's mother was also agitated upon seeing her daughter in such a condition and was howling non-stop. Apparently both dogs were not strays but allowed to wander around by their owner who were not at home when the incident happened. We informed Reco and Mikheala who immediately went to the place but the petrified dog had run off. However the dog returned home after its owners came back and Reco and Mikheale immediately rushed to the place and brought the injured dog to our panel clinic in Subang Jaya. The owner does not want it back. Our vet spoke to us about the dogs and advised us to put it to sleep because it will no longer have a nose. The nose has been completely looped off and was hanging by a shred of skin. He said he had carried our surgeries whereby noses were removed on dogs that suffered from cancer. However, he said there will be underlying issues such as possible infection of the nose. We have had a discussion with MDDB's core people such as Irene, Rena and Christine as well as our good friend Animalcare's Dr Chan Kah Yein who all opined that the dog should be given a chance to live as it is young and physically fit. Christine had also called a vet she knows and he apparently felt that a dog can live without its nose. So, its now being treated at the clinic and we'll pray very hard that some good Samaritan would care to give it home. Now back to the @%#@^%#!#@% who looped of the dog's nose - we are shocked that more and more Malaysians are becoming so cruel and bloodthirsty. If someone can do this to an animal, he is capable of doing worst things to a fellow human being who can fight back. We are curious as we want to see for ourselves who this retard is - so we will be going to Semenyih tomorrow to find out what motivated such an act of cruelty.

JULY ADOPTION DRIVE AT JAYA ONE

The JAYA ONE adoption drive Sunday drew a big crowd and we are happy that about 13 puppies and dogs found new homes. However, someone again abandoned 5 puppies at our half-way-home but luckily this time around dumped them inside the compound instead of tying them to the gate. Given that two cats had also been adopted at the drive, we have decided to also have cats at all our future adoption drives. Something strange is also happening as several stray pregnant cats have 'checked' themselves into our half-way-home recently. So, we are now preparing for the arrival of a generous amount of kitties that will be in need of good homes soon. Find attached pics of the adoption drive. We would like to thank our team of dedicated volunteers who gave 110 % to make the drive a success. A big thank you to our previous adopters as well who had come to give us moral support and donations in cash and kind. TERIMA KASIH!
