MDDB will also hold its monthly adoption drive at Jaya One on Sunday between 11.30am to 7.30pm at Block NB1, facing Station 1 and Old Town White Coffee.
More than 30 puppies and dogs are expected to be put up for adoption at both venues.
Teng, who is also the Sungai Pinang assemblyman, said he was aware of the large number of strays in Klang and therefore wanted to help counter the problem in a compassionate and humane manner.
“One of the more humane solution would be to rehome the puppies born as strays and I am helping MDDB do it,’’ said Teng.
Teng also urged members of the public to show understanding towards the efforts of independent rescue groups and to help them if they are able to.
“They (the rescue groups) are doing everything possible to handle the issue of strays, so let’s show them some support and tolerance,’’ he said.
MDDB adoption coordinator welcomed Teng’s involvement in helping the canine welfare project to find homes for its rescued dogs and puppies.
“We are very grateful to Datuk Teng and hope that more politicians will come forward to help us in a similar way,’’ she said.
So far MDDB has also had adoption drives at Kota Alam Shah assemblyman M. Manoharan, Klang MP Charles Santiago and Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng’s service centers.
MDDB is also running short of food supplies such as canned and dry dog and puppy food, cat and kitten food as well as rice.
“We seriously need old newspapers, bleach, detergent and old towels and shampoo,’’ said Lai.
Those wanting to donate these items can drop them off at the adoption drive.
