MPS MUST BE CRAZY

Being watched
Being watched
Made to wait for over an hour in the hot sun

Our friends Evelyn and Jo went to the Selayang Municipal council pound this morning with cooked food, kibbles and canned food for the dogs. They stood for almost an hour outside the locked gate with no one coming to talk to them even though there were nine people inside the pound. However, several MPS people arrived at the scene and started taking pictures of the girls and keeping an eye on them. This can be perceived as intimidation. Evelyn and Jo did not give-up and stood there until some pound workers came out to take the food form them. They were not allowed in. When Evelyn asked what happens if dog owners came to take their dogs out, she was told that they would have to go to the office (open only during weekdays) to get a letter to come into the pound and once they have found their dog, they would have to travel miles again back to the office to pay the compound before taking their dog back home. Why is MPS making it difficult for owners and rescuers to take dogs out? Does it give them perverted satisfaction to see these poor animals dead rather than helping them to live? Anyway, some useless goons are accusing us of highlighting this to get money from the public. How much sicker can they get? We are not bums trying to make a fast buck from championing this cause. We are all gainfully employed professionals who cannot handle seeing animals suffer. Yes, we are dependant on public donations - how are we expected to pay the thousands of ringgit we currently owe several veterinary clinics without public help. Ironically these goons receive at least 50 times more in donations than us but do nothing at all for stray animals.. To these evil beings - all MDDB has to say is: STOP TRYING TO SABOTAGE THE CHANGE WE ARE TRYING TO INITIATE AT THE LOCAL COUNCIL POUNDS . YOU HAVE TARNISHED YOUR CREDIBILITY - DON'T MAKE IT WORSE. Btw we spoke to some dog catchers earlier in the day and they told us that the Selayang Pound is horrendous. They said the main reason behind this sad state of affairs is a tall woman. Could that be Ernie 013-6064446?

THEY'RE TRYING TO MAKE THE OWNER OR RESCUER FEEL THT ITS TROUBLESOME TO TRAVEL HERE N THERE FOR GET THE DOCUMENTATION DONE, SO THT OWNER/RESCUER WIL GIVE UP... I DARE TO SAY, TAT'S THEIR MAIN AND ACTUAL PURPOSE...!!!! Dear MDDB, pls do not ever give up... MAKE IT A HUGE ISSUE if possible til worldwide.... Lets c wat wil happen...

Anthony (Petpositive), Jacqueline Tsang (SAS)- stop all your lies. You both idiots, are you aware that now the public & dog owner are not allowed to enter the pound to claim / bail dog ?! Both you idiot should channel your energy to question MPS Ernie on her cruelty act & make known to public & put them to task !

Anonymous said...

You want them to respect your views, please also respect their culture. Next time you go, don't wear sleaveless and shorts

Anonymous said...

you mean there is a dress code to visit pound?
batik, kebaya, ties for the boys?

Anonymous said...

No, I think its kebaya for malays, cheongsam for the chinese and sari for the Indians. Lounge suits for men.

Anonymous said...

Interesting reading the above points.

One point to note on the comment about dress code. I never saw any at any pounds. So much for a tolerant society. Whoever you are, please take a look at the pre-merdeka pictures. People seem to be more tolerant then. Dont be surprise if you see your grandma wore a mini skirt or tight kebaya. But then again, we see what we choose to see right? Instead of the cruelty on animals, this individual choose to focus on people's skin.

And please dont try to make this a racial or religious issue. It is an issue of a few unfortunate retards at MPJ would cannot crawl anywhere else in their miserable careers, and had to channel their superiority complex to abuse animals. Off course we have to throw in a few politicians who does not have the balls to stand up to the truth.

IF ALL THIS IS TRUE,

I, A MALAYSIAN, SHALL PRAY EVERY DAY THAT ERNIE BE STOPPED FROM INFLICTING FURTHER CRUELTY ON ANIMALS.

I PRAY THAT SHE WILL BE FIRED!

I PRAY THAT SHE WILL GET TO TASTE THE SAME FATE AS THE CREATURES SHE TORTURE

I PRAY THAT HER FAMILY, HER SPOUSE, HER CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN GET TO EXPERIENCE, GETS TO LIVE THE WAY THE DOGS DID AT MPS POUND.

AND TO ALL OF YOU AT MPS, WHO WATCHED THE ANIMALS SUFFER: AS YOU SAY YOUR PRAYERS EVERYDAY, PLEASE QUESTION YOUR OWN SINCERITY.

MY PRAYERS FOR YOU ARE THE SAME AS THAT I HAVE FOR ERNIE AND HER FAMILY -> I PRAY THAT ALL OF YOU, YOUR KIDS AND YOUR FAMILY WILL LIVE LIKE THE ANIMALS YOU TORTURE.

FOR,I AM SURE GOD IS JUST, AND IS MERCIFUL.

Anonymous said...

Respect their culture? What culture? Barbarians do not have culture. Culture is for civilised people. Civilised people do not mistreat animals or torture them.
We have a bunch of barbarians intent on torturing the animals at the various councils. They are sickos! They need psychiatric help.

Anonymous said...

What culture? Could it mean to respect their right to torture dogs as it is part of their culture to torture dogs? Any culture that includes the right to torture dogs is a sick culture, and the individuals concerned certainly have rooms in their names at Hospital Bahagia in Tanjong Rambutan.

Anonymous said...

"Don't wear sleeveless and shorts". Help! The Talibans of Afghanistan have arrived in Malaysia... Call the US Marines to evict them! US Marines like dogs too. Long live the US Marines!

Anonymous said...

Where the hell is there a dress code to go to a council dog pound? Should we dress up like Puteri Leia or Han Solo before we are let in? Idiots! No wonder this country is facing so much problems.

Anonymous said...

Yes. Looks like now we all have to shop at Boutique Solo-Leia.

Anonymous said...

Anthony abused the fund allocated by MBPJ to buy a disabled friendly van for himself

Anonymous said...

To the above anonymous individual, if you have actually bothered to visit the petpositive blog and read it CORRECTLY, you will know that the van has been donated by the CIMB Foundation to petpositive.
It is acceptable and understandable to critisice and even condemn Anthony based on his views but to outright make up absolute lies speaks a whole lot about YOUR CREDIBILITY!

But please feel free to spread your vicious lies and by all means, please make all the neccessary reports with the MACC and the police and whoever else can help you and your cowardly (a.k.a ANONYMOUS) friends meet your
objectives.

GOOD LUCK!

Anonymous said...

Hmmnnnn... MACC should do a deeeeep probe of Jabba regarding the van....and make Jabba do a proper accounting of fund usage....

Good lord! You have given Puteri Leia and Han Solo a money-making idea! Now everyone who wishes to go to any dog pound for whatever reason will first have to buy and wear their Boutique Solo-Leia creations before they are admitted into the pound. Guards at the pound will check the labels on your dress to see you are wearing a Solo-Leia creation before admittance. Of course, a RM10 note pressed into the palms of the guards will conveniently turn your RM5 pasar malam t-shirt into also a Solo-Leia creation...lowly-paid guards must cari-makan too mah...no?

Anonymous said...

that is the whole trouble, nobody bothers to visit the petnegative blog because it is full of shit...that is why all this things happen...if you want eyeballs to visit your blog, then post nice things which people like to read and appreciate and they will come back for more...if u have shit who wants to linger there and come back? like that also don't know one. bodoh.

Anthony,
v r not interested to visit your Pet Negative blog, being a dog destroyer- it is a shame 2 laern tat u hv formed CAT - Clearly Acting & Twisting

Anonymous said...

I feel so sorry for those two girls standing in the hot sun. They were kind hearted enough to go all the way there with food for the dogs and those cruel people purposely let them stand inthe hot sun like that. Those people in charge of the dog pounds are worse than barbarians... to call them barbarians would be too kind.

Anonymous said...

Selangor also wants local govt elections. Hey people, if there is local govt elections in Selangor, MDDB and its friends should put up candidates for all the local councils. Yeah, and we all have the opportunity to fight Jabba and the other evil ones in the council elections! We have to put as many animal-friendly councillors as possible into the 12 councils in Selangor.

Anonymous said...

CIMB Foundation donated the van to Petpositive to ferry the disabled to its center. So, why is he using it as his personal vehicle? He uses it to go to the dog pounds and attend CAT meetings. It is also used to transport his able-bodied CAT cronnies to the pounds. Is this allowed? Should the CIMB Foundation be informed of this misuse?

Anonymous said...

Yet again another ill informed anonymous individual. Petpositive hasnt even received the van yet from CIMB.Why dont you ask CIMB Foundation and make your "concerns" known to them. The van used is given by MBPJ for all disabled in Petaling Jaya to use when neccessary, Anthony being one of them. Check your facts before coming here and making baseless accusations. Better still, take all your "EVIDENCE"" and run to the nearest police station or MACC office and dont just hide behind this blog!

Anonymous said...

Jabba is using MBPJ van to ferry able-bodied cronnies?

Anonymous said...

Jabba should not have accused of MDDB of using the MPS dog pound issue to raise more donations. That was a cheap shot.
MDDB and other rescue groups like AnimalCare have rescued tonnes of dogs and cats and they need donations for their upkeep and medical care...sometimes the donations are not even enough to cover all the costs and rescuers have to dig into their own pockets to help pay.
Have PetNegative even rescued one single kitten before?
Why does Jabba behave like he is an expert on dog pounds when he and the CAT are actually babies when it comes to this.
The real experts on animal rescue and dog pounds and cruel dog catchers are those animal rescuers on the frontline, who day in and day out go around rescuing strays from the streets, sending them for medical treatment, fostering them, rehoming them and checking on whether the adopters are treating the adopted animals well.
They are the heroines and heros. They are the experts. And on top of that, they have to deal with obnoxious and cruel pound staff who behave like little napoleons and warlords and give these animal rescuers a hard time when they try to save the dogs in the pounds.
CAT being naive and foolish turn up after the sick and injured dogs are killed and disposed of and the pound all cleaned up and CAT pronounces that there is no animal cruelty just like that.
Such acts only puts CAT into disrepute among animal lovers in this country. To regain some dignity, CAT members should resign and disband and get themselves euthanised at any vet of their choosing. And the stray dogs will rejoice.

I was clueless about what Solo-Leia was and only figured it out by going to the last post. I am actually intrigued by the Hans Solo and Princess Leia here. Very intersting.

MDDB keep up the good work... you all are god sent angels for our doggie friends... all you ppl who comment, sit down and take a minute to think.... what have i done for these dogs, how can i help further.... remember ppl our cause should be for the animals...

the tortured souls of thousands of murdered dogs and puppies at the local pounds demand JUSTICE and VENGEANCE!
their only crime was being born in this country and they were tortured, starved and killed for being born in this country.
let VENGEANCE be theirs! when the karma of their murderers ripen, these evil beings will suffer as their victims. and the tortured souls of these dogs and puppies can rest in peace.

Anonymous said...

sometimes if evil beings stand in your way to do good for the animals, and they refuse to step aside, it may be neccessary to push them out of the way and not find a way around them. life in this country is not a bed of roses, there are a lot of nasty people out there and you cannot be polite to every one of them. sometimes u need to get tough, and let them know that u can hurt them just as well as they can hurt u. and that might persuade them to look for easier victims. all these for the dogs!

Anonymous said...

I completely agree with the above 2 comments. Lets spend our energy doing whats best for the animals instead of just using this forum for name calling, personal attacks and idle gossip. To be honest, how is CAT standing in our way of doing things. I mean, they want to work with the council, thats their choice/way. What is ours?? What is MDDBS???

Anonymous said...

...mbpj lets jabba use council van
...jabba agrees to use council van

so how can jabba now says anything critical of any council regarding the dog pound issue when he travels around on a council van?
so much for neutrality?
jabba and CAT should not accept anything from any council... van or otherwise when doing CAT jobs... be neutral... how to travel around in a council van and then behave in a neutral way?
jabba and CAT are now beholden to the MBPJ council... can only say nice things yah?

i totaly agree with anonymous... why is everyone fretting about jabba lah, darth lah, princess leia or solo for that matter. i have seen MDDB at work and all this bickering is giving MDDB a bad name... MDDB pls carry on your wonderful work and the administrator of the blog maybe can put a statement on what MDDB's motto and all that it fights for as a reminder to all those who visit the blog, so that they will think deeply before marring the imej of MDDB.

"i totaly agree with anonymous... why is everyone fretting about jabba lah, darth lah, princess leia or solo for that matter. i have seen MDDB at work and all this bickering is giving MDDB a bad name..."

who wrote that? jabba is that u?
darth. jabba, solo and leia must be feeling the heat.

their political masters must be feeling awkward too. how to cover up animal cruelty in the pounds when it is actually happening with pictorial evidence too, even spca agrees there is cruelty. not too good for political support especially when dog lovers number in the hundreds of thousands in the country.

if darth, jabba and their cronies keep messing things up, their political masters might have to drop them like hot potatoes. that is politics for u. let's turn them into hot potatoes. any skeletons in the cupboards on these four evil ones?

Anonymous said...

the people marring the image of mddb are people like anthony who accuses mddb of using the MPS dog pound cruelty issue to raise more donations. it is a defamatory remark posted on his blog.
and furthermore, anthony gave a statement that there was no cruelty being done at the MPS dog pound when pictorial evidence shows there were and SPCA concurs that there was cruelty and needless suffering for the dogs at the MPS pound.
so who is marring whose image...think before you put a post in mddb...pakai otak

yep, let's jump on the evil ones and give them hell...let their political masters feel the heat too and they will make these evil ones disappear to get the pressure off their back...that is how it is done in politics.
send emails to all state assemblyman including the mentri besar and complain about darth and jabba. emails should also go to the barisan nasional state assemblymen too...heheheh...tell them these two evil ones are covering up for the deaths and torture of thousands of dogs in the various dog pounds. in a civilised society, this does not happen....are we civilise enough to act on it? tell the mentri besar and state assemblymen that darth and jabba must be removed from their positions....since they are not sincere in doing their jobs, etc...

I can sense some of the CAT cronies amongst us, eyeing on us on what MDDB do and occasionally voice out on behalf of them, look at the posting on them defending that the van is given by MBPJ and so on. Hey anonymous who supports Ant and the rest, please ask him to 'stand up' for the abused animals and 'speak up' for them. Oops, i forgot he can't stand but he can speak right? As i know, he's been talking bullshits on the media and if he can't state the truth then might as well ask him to shut up.

For info, i went to the Petpositive blog and try to post something about the truth in pound conditions cause i personally went there before, both pounds! And, guess what? My posting was not up coz i guess Ant is too chicken to let others read about the truth, selective hearing and reading eh? Well, his vocabulory is limited too, i suspect coz he kept saying 'pound condition is good, enough food and water, no evil people creeping behind trees and certainly no dogs died during his 2-hour visit, only dumb-ass like him would say that! Who is he trying to kid? Even a 3-year old kid, would say the pound condition looks bad and smelly if they're there. He can't smell the stench because shit are coming out of his mouth!

It's really sad when the head of all this is an ignorant Muslim. NO WHERE does God call the dogs dirty animals or give any indication that they should be avoided or treated the way many Muslims think they should. This shows how uneducated they are. When can they open their eyes to see these animals are all God's creation and they are not being created to be tortured and abused. I'm not making this a racial or religious issue but I think the Muslims in this country will need to be educated about DOGS!

yo! ronnie liu! where art thou? jabba and darth appears to be doing your job for you and messing things up. better kick both of them out and do it yourself-lah.
u are the state exco man in charge of local govt i.e. the councils and there is dog massacre in the dog pounds while jabba and darth are busy covering up the massacre with press statements saying there is no dog cruelty in the pounds.
common ronnie, do your job, that is what u are elected for. don't let the dog haters get away with the slaughter of innocent defenceless dogs in the pounds. be a hero, fight the dog haters and we will support you inthe fight.

'why is everyone fretting about jabba lah, darth lah, princess leia or solo for that matter. i have seen MDDB at work and all this bickering is giving MDDB a bad name...'

the above commentator has seen mddb at work but obviously didn't lift a finger to help. ah hah, he or she has given the game away...must be a CAT member-lah.

now, they come to mddb blog to tell mddb how to run their blog. this cannot...that cannot...and so on. and when they see mddb at work, they only see but not help.

if we try to post the type of comments like we do in mddb on the petnegative blog, none would have appeared because jabba practises dictatorship and SELECTIVE censorship.

i am glad that mddb practises a more democratic system and even allow minions of darth, jabba, sola and leia to post their disruptive comments. that is the difference between democracy and dictatorship.

Meaning he takes responsibility for his own comments. UNLIKE YOU ANONYMOUS COWARDS HERE! AND NO, Im not one of the FOUR EVIL ONES!! Im sure you all believe that but truth is im just as cowardly as all of you. Why so scared to put your names here huh? Very brave to call politicians names but too chicken to identify yourself? What happened to police reports you'll are suppose to make against Ronnie Liu? FFF??? HAHAHA, HAVE U SEEN THE CONDITION OF FFF RECENTLY? Im an independant pet rescuer and IM SICK OF ALL YOU ANIMAL GROUPS JUST FIGHTING AND FIGHTING WITH ONE ANOTHER WHILE THE ANIMALS ARE SUFFERING!!!!! MDDB, YOU HIGHLIGHT THE CRUELTY- GREAT JOB. BUT THEN WHAT?? WHAT IS YOUR BIG PLAN OTHER THAN STUPID STAR WARS REFERENCE AND POLICE REPORTS!!

Anonymous said...

Exactly! I wonder who doesn't write their own name in their own blog, that's just stupid to make such comments! I think this person who too coward to own up herself/himself is just cuckoo, coming here to whine and throw tantrums like a crybaby. For your info, i went to FFF before CNY to pass rice donations to Sabrina herself at FFF and even took a tour around, the condition was fine, there's food and water (Not like how Anthony portrays the pound though...haha..there's really food and water to go around. And most dogs are running freely, playing and occasionally fighting but that's only normal. Only those who are not spayed are kept in cages.

P/S: It's located at a scenic area in Kundang (also not like how Ant portray the Selayang pound to be...he says it's a scenic area there when it's surrounded by factories.. That is considered scenic to him? Then his dream home would be an abandoned factory perhaps?!)

MDDB highlighted the cruelty and followed up with rescue, treatment and re-homing of these poor dogs together with Animal Care. MDDB also has monthly dog adoptions.

But what did CAT do? CAT went to inspect MPK and MPS pounds and pronounce there are no mismanagement, everything is fine, blah blah blah blah blah and having countless meetings and what did they achieve in the end? NOTHING!!!

so still anonymous, please go and bark at petnegative and not here

I am very disturbed by the accusations against MDDB and FFF.

I have been to FFF in Kundang, as well as gotten helped from MDDB and Sabrina at FFF whenever I chanced upon any strays needing help.

Never once did they turn me down. FYI, I am not a member of either organisations. It just so happen, they have MY TRUST. I do not have any trust in some of the other more well established organisations, which areoiled with funds and can afford to speak louder.

I just think that people need to be fair to these ladies and many other independent pet rescuers out there (Shoba, Chris (mom of cats), Ruth, Erica and many many more I am sure) who does the real dirty work of picking up and nursing each and every stray back to health. Not to mention the tedious task of finding homes for them, and finding the funds to pay for the vets.
For certain, it is not a task for the faint hearted and uncommitted.

Have you seen how they feed and nurse the pups and cats with distemper , parvo or those that has been badly bashed up? Have you seen them spending their weekends trying to find homes for the strays? I have.I have seen how Sabrina cleaned the animals feeding bowls, and how Wani goes about finding homes for the dogs. I am sorry, I just havent seen the critics doing the same. So, in my eyes, they dont have a right to condemn and throw accusations. Talk is cheap.

If you have not done any of these, then you need to shut up. You are not qualified to condemn and critise their good work. We certainly need more of these good people in this country.

Please leave these ladies alone, and DO NOT EVER EVER INSINUATE that they are out there to get money from the public. Just keep quiet, if you cant help stop animal cruelty in this country. Do not make it worse than it already is.

Okay, so where are we and what are the next steps to put a stop to this MACABRE Practice?
WE MUST NEVER STOP LETTING IT KNOWN THAT THIS IS EVIL AT WORK, - only SYAITAN in the mask of a human face is capable of such EVIL.

1.QUESTION: Is MPS firing Ernie for sadistic pleasure of watching the animals starve and die at MPS Pound ?

2. QUESTION: Is MPS removing that poor excuse for a human being 'Dr' Razif for letting the animals starve, without food and water (until this was highlighted by the NGOs to the press)

3. Dr Xavier said in the Star (March 3rd) last week that "All 12 local councils in Selangor will soon have a standard set of guidelines for keeping pets".
QUESTION: ANY IDEA HOW SOON, IF DR XAVIER PLANS TO DELIVER ON WHAT HE SAID TO THE PRESS?

4) On the plan of having a modern pound in Selangor, Dr Xavier said the Sepang Municipal Council (MPSp) would be given land measuring between 1.2ha and 2ha for the pound.
QUESTION: I WONDER WHEN CAN THE POUND BE READY OR IS THIS JUST TALK ONLY? SHOW US THE PLAN AND THE TIMEFRAME, AND MAYBE WE CAN START BUILDING SOME TRUST. HOW SOON IS SOON?

4.Petaling Jaya City Councillor Anthony Thanasayan, who also chairs the MBPJ Canine Advisory Team, in the same report said: “While the NGOs want to save the animals, the local councils are trying to create a safe environment for the people to live in.”
He said he initiated the workshop to share CAT’s experiences with the other councils.
A working paper would be prepared following this workshop and would be forwarded to the state government and the Selangor Economy Action Council (MTES).
QUESTION : I DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE ABOVE STATEMENT. IF HE IS REFERRING TO ANIMALS ALREADY CAGED IN THE POUND, HOW CAN THE ANIMALS BE A DANGER TO HUMANS? ITS LUNATICS LIKE ERNIE, DR RAZIF WHO ARE A DANGER TO THE ANIMALS AND A DISGRACE TO THE HUMAN RACE. ANYWAY, WHEN DOES MR THANASAYAN INTEND TO DELIVER THIS 'WORKING PAPER' AND WILL IT BE AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC?

Anonymous said...

What now? Just a suggestion….
There is a dialogue this Saturday between state reps and animal welfare groups right?
Ok… don’t go empty handed. Go with a plan. An interim plan and a permanent plan.
Yes, other than that xavier chap’s centralised dog pound-lah, anthony’s working paper-lah, it is better to also push your plan. Your plan will be that of the coalition of animal rescue groups and individuals which will be set up soon…
Seriously, do u guys trust the above two politicians? They speak ‘doublespeak’. Which means when they say ‘soon’ it could be one month to 10 years. And ‘working paper would be prepared’ means they have yet to find the paper to draw it on, and it might take one month to 10 years to find the paper. And in the meantime, thousands of poor dogs get tortured, starved and slaughtered at the various pounds.
But I am not here to talk about the above two. So, my suggestions:
(1) Be pro-active. Throw your plan at the state reps. The interim plan and it is very quick to implement. How? Get the state exo, state reps to authorise a team from your animal rights coalition and SPCA and PAWS to inspect all dog pounds in Selangor.
(2) This team of say 12 members (6 from coalition, 3 from SPCA, 3 from PAWS) will have unrestricted access to all dog pounds at the various council at any time.
(3) This team will have the authority to remove any dogs or puppies from the pounds for whatever reasons and they will not be charged any fee for doing so, nor can any council officer stop them from removing the dogs.
(4) All team members will be registered by the state exco and be issued with a special pass with their photos on it and all councils will allow access to the dog pounds to anyone with such a pass.
(5) A liaison officer will be appointed by the state exco or state govt to liaise with this dog pound inspection team. Any change in team members can be notified to this liaison officer and a new pass issued to a new team member. Any problems faced by team members can also be notified to this liaison office such as council officers deliberately hindering their work.
This interim plan, which can be implemented in less than a month, will immediately help stop dog cruelty in the pounds as team members can drop by unannounced at any time to check on the conditions and remove any dogs if necessary. Team members can also bring in proper food, water and arrange medical treatment for injured and sick dogs.
The long-term plan. With the implementation of the interim plan, there is time for everyone to plan a long-term project for a permanent solution.
Long-term project may be CNRM… catch, neuter, rehome or manage, as promoted by various rescue groups such as AnimalCare. Get the community involved, if feeders/carers in a residential area are prepared to take proper care of a colony of animals, then help them to implement CNRM, help them with food and medical care.
A centralised animal sanctuary… don’t call it centralised dog pound-lah… sounds like a death camp for dogs… where the state provides the land and a yearly grant, and managed jointly by the state and the various animal welfare group. This will take time, months and years? But something to look forward to eh?
And so on, I am sure u guys doing the frontline work in animal rescue can come up with other workable suggestions and plans. Having your own plan to present to the state reps is better than depending on politicians like Xavier and Anthony with their doublespeak, no?

Anonymous said...

there are many animal lovers in the pakatan rakyat too. be brave, push your plan, what do u guys have to lose? do it for the defenceless, voiceless dogs.

I like what was said by Anonymous at 7:22 pm March 9. Makes a whole load of sense. A plan at least.

Hey MDDB, what's the plan ? Will there be a meeting to strategise between the coalition of Independent Pet Rescuers before meeting up with the Aliens forces? For those who cannot make it in person, can we have an online forum/meeting or something to support the cause?

Dear people, thank you very much for all the feedback and yes we have a plan. Many of us would be meeting at Hannah Yeoh's forum on Saturday - hope those who can make it will be there. Having an online forum is an excellent suggestion - will create one at yahoogroups a.s.a.p.
Thank you.

I boycotted The Star since the day I wrote to them about the cruelty in Klang Pound. They did not reply nor do anything about it. They are just a coward that's afraid to offence certain parties!!!

Yeah, let's spread the word about all these evil ones like Anthony, who want to play politics and let the stray dogs be captured, tortured and killed. All these evil people are sick mentally, they need psychiatric help. No sane person will want to see helpless dogs tortured and killed by starvation and thirst.

I support printing out the photos of the tortured animals and mounting it up for display.
Be sure to take a photo of the Gates of Hell too (MPS, MPK, DBKL, UPM dan lain lain),
just so everyone knows where the Devil resides.

This makes me so angry.
I shall be sure to set time aside to to write to various organisations to highlight the culture of animal cruelty in government facilities in this country,
including that sanctioned by the local councils.
This is something a lot of people are passionate about (else you wont be here!). I shall endeavour to share information with my network of contacts on what they can do to help alleviate animal suffering in this country, as well as those organisations that they could contribute their time and effort to.
We need to stop this Tidak Apathy!!!

It is so sad that in the United Arab Emirates, the law that protects animals has the following penalty:
"Every person who maliciously and intentionally maims, mutilates or tortures a living animal, or maliciously and intentionally kills an animal, is guilty of an offence punishable by imprisonment of up to one year, or by a fine of not more then Dh10,000 (RM10,300), or by both the fine and the imprisonment."

Contrast that to Malaysia:
Animal Act 1953 (Revised 2006). The current law that governs animal cruelty only a mere RM200 fine (for the past half a decade since Merdeka).

I do not believe that the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia is "the right body to take action on such matters", as stated by Mr Thanasayan in the Star (March 11). From my perspective, the DVS has not done anything of significance to the cause of animal welfare in this country. That is the INCONVENIENT TRUTH.

Honestly, what has DVS done for the below cases, Mr Thanasayan?

1. Animal torture at DBKL Setapak Pound
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2009/2/6/central/3204204&sec=central

2. Animal Torture at UPM - reported in a letter from a member of the public to a local newspaper "Vivisection - KL City Hall a supplier to UPM"

3. In September 2008, a licensed dog named Turbo was kidnapped from inside the gated compound of a house in Sepang. The Jack-Russell Terrier was reported to be abducted by Sepang Municipal Council dog catchers. Based on a neighbour’s account, one of the men lured Turbo to the fence, while the other climbed over the fence, grabbed him and subsequently passed Turbo to his accomplice. The men then beat the dog with the butt of the weapon to silence him. The dog was returned dead when the owner managed to track down the contract bounty hunter.

4. In November 2008, Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) dog catchers caught a stray dog and dragged it through a house gate. A witness said the dog had been beaten by the dog catchers, dragged through a five-inch gap in the gate, and taken to the MPSJ dog pound in Puchong, where it was not treated for its injuries. Animal rescuers paid the compound, removed the dog and sent it to the vet for treatment the next day.

5 In November 2008, another pet owner lodged a report with SPCA, alleging that Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) dog catchers had trespassed into her home and dragged her dog from underneath the main gate. Attempts were made to locate the dog which was not taken to the PAWS Animal Shelter, but held by the MBSA and put to sleep three days later. The owner and an SPCA inspector arrived during the destruction process, and were literally minutes too late to save the dog. The distraught owner made a police report after leaving the pound.

Reality Bites. I have no faith that the DVS (Malaysia) has the capability and the will to address this long standing issue.
I am all for local government elections.
The councillors should sit for tests to prove that they are in touch with reality, and not floating in LaLaLand.
They should also get their eyesights and brains checked, so that they do not suffer from selective vision, selecting hearing and selective memory loss during their term in office.

The fact is this, the DVS first of all is the body which can overule the council management and what have they done so far? Not much i guess, since most of the pounds are still in a mess and places like MPKj dun even have a pound to start with but they have dogcatchers and one may think 'where do they put the dogs after capturing them?' Well, for the general public's info, the dogs are left in the van under the hot sun and will be euthanised the same day. Can u imagine if your dog is being caught and you wouldn't even have the chance to bail your dog and it's already been put to sleep? Not only that, do you even think that they actually put them to sleep on the same day, i seriously doubt it, if they were put down a few days later, where will the dogs be? They'll be left in the van without food and water and many die from heat, starvation/thirst, and stress. I know this is happening because my friend who is a dog lover is a councilor in MPKj.

Anthony in this case will say 'Well, it's the owner's fault for letting their dog out', to a certain extent yes, it's the owner's responsibility to ensure their dog not let out to roam freely but what if it's a case where your dog somehow escaped from the house to take a pee/poo and was captured. From what he says, i find his thinking is one dimensional and i find it hard to have a person like that in the CAT committee, he's trying to sound like he emphatises with us but from what everyone can see, he's really just taking the council's side.

I agree with you Anonymous 7.56AM, even this Dr.Xavier Jayakumar is in the same ship with Ant and was very defensive over catching strays and pound mgmt issues. I'm not surprise at all if he actually rants without making any research first, coz from what the public can see, he's definitely talking crap about the MPK pound condition not being true. He thinks we are blind or it's just normal for dogs to drop dead every now and then in the pound.

The guidelines for council to have a pound is that they must also have a holding area where sick dogs can be treated but NONE of the pound have these facilities but it surprise you that they have budget to get new vans, to build a 'basic' pound,to pay dogcatchers incentives per dog/pup but no budget for food, medical, disinfectant, holding area (mini clinic). That's how their mind works and sometimes you'll wonder what are the qualifications to apply for a post in the council as a director of Health Dept,i think a kindergarten scroll would do. Oh no, come to think of it even kindergarten kids have compassion for animals!

mddb, please highlight mpkj case next. this will make the councils feel the heat. we dog lovers are behind u all the way.

we know dr xavier, anthony and dvs are useless and are ass kissers. not fit to be local councillors bec they are selfish.
local councils, stop paying dog catchers incentives.
strays also have lives. for every dogs that u torture and for every lies you spew, u or your descendamts will have to pay back one day

Dear Fellow Citizens,
1. Allocating money to private contract companies (such as VET-FINE (M) SDN. BHD. No Pendaftaran : 1961115-SL015124) to capture strays is not a solution. Studies by international organizations have shown that despite repeated culling, the stray population will keep recovering and is likely to do so as long as stray dogs and cats are abandoned and not neutered. Hence, this does nothing in terms of reducing the number of strays in the streets - although, it certainly would continuously profit the enterprising contractors who win these contracts. I am curious:
• In a year, how much is paid out to these companies by our local councils? How much on average for each dog captured?
• Would it not be better and more cost effective for the local councils to provide local animal welfare groups and NGOs the funding to undertake the task of capturing the strays (rather than private contactors)? After all, the NGOs have the knowledge and the skills to deal with the problem (compared to the private contractors who are in it for the profit)

2. Could Mr Thanasayan please enlighten us what action DVS has taken with regards to this case : http://turbovong.blogspot.com/2008/09/turbo-small-dog-with-big-personality.html? I would like to ask he who states that the Department of Veterinary Services Malaysia is "the right body to take action on such matters", to let us know what action DVS has taken in response to this tragic case? How would you feel, if Turbo is one of your service dogs?
If DVS has not taken any action, do you honestly think DVS will work with You or any party to take any positive action in the future? (However, I do agree with you on one point highlighted in your article. I read from your article that you managed to get some of the building, engineering, planning and landscape experts from MPS into wheelchairs or blindfolding them to enable them to experience what life was like for persons with disabilities. I suggest you do the same and ask them to stay a day to experience life behind the cage in the pound – ticks, white rice with curry and minus the water. I look forward to reading about this in your next column.)

3. Studies by international organizations such as WSPA and WHO have shown that in order to sustainably manage the stray population, both owned and stray dogs need to be addressed through a comprehensive program which engages all stakeholders. Killing large numbers of cats & dogs is not an effective long-term solution to the problem:
• Guidelines for Dog Population Management W.H.O. Geneva, 1990 (page 74): ‘Removal and killing of dogs should never be considered as the most effective way of dealing with a problem of surplus dogs in the community: it has no effect whatsoever on the root cause of the problem’
• Report of W.H.O. Consultation on Dog Ecology Studies, related to Rabies Control, Geneva 22-25 February 1988 (page 11): ‘In none of the studies did the elimination of dogs by any method have any significant long-term effect on dog population size’
Perhaps, we could learn from the strategies used in other countries, such as:
• Animal welfare be part of the curriculum in schools, or form part of their social welfare activities. This encourages students to grow into compassionate and caring adults
• Outreach Programs: On-going animal welfare and environmental education/awareness campaigns, reaching all adults, and promoted by the local government and NGOs
• Government and NGOs working together to neuter and return the healthy animals. ABC (Animal Birth Control) programs have been advocated as a humane method of stabilizing the dog population. Street dogs are captured, surgically neutered and re-released in the same area where they were caught. A cohesive and healthy group of neutered animals will deter other animals from moving into the area and will not increase in number due to breeding, therefore helping to stabilise the stray animal population in that area.
• Licensing and regulation of cat and dog breeders; licensing and regulation of owned animals
• Prosecution and meaningful penalties for licensing infringements and abandonment.
• Financial assistance to lower-income pet owners with regard to animal neutering and disease control.

(reference : http://www.scadbangkok.org/aboutus/index.htm) – Note: I am truly inspired with what this folks have done here. Perhaps, together, animal lovers in MY can do the same.

4. Our local councils must be staffed by trained and dedicated professionals. Truly dedicated, rational and capable professionals, committed to finding better ways of addressing the issue. Stray animal population control is a complex issue and there are no easy overnight solutions. It must be dealt with in a manner which balances animal rights and human rights.
If the staff involved in the capture and care of the animals, or 'compounders' are generally poorly paid, poorly educated or perceive their jobs as dirty and menial, they would most likely not be motivated and treat the captured animals poorly. We sorely need professionals who have the capacity to understand, synthesize, learn and logically integrate and apply the best practices shared by international organizations to improve the organizations under their care.
(ref: http://spca.org.my/v51/data/news/55/2007_28Nov_MPS%20Meeting_SPCA.doc).

5. Any animal captured, must be dealt with humanely. Cruelty to the captured animals, or depriving them of water and food is not a solution and certainly not acceptable in our religion. Indeed, the life of the Prophet is replete with instances of kindness to animals that is the role model for all the Muslims in the world. Once he declared that a woman would endure (Hell) Fire because she was cruel to a cat and starved it to death. On another occasion, an immoral woman was forgiven of all her sins for taking water to a dying dog and quenching its thirst.

6. History has consistently shown us that this will likely be just another unfortunate episode, swept under the carpet for now, and waiting to be repeated again soon in a few months time, once the furor dies down – IF WE LET IT BE. WE must not let this happen again.

If each of us do our little part to raise awareness, and let it be known that cruelty will not be tolerated by the majority of Malaysians, I have faith that goodness and truth will prevail. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but there will be a turning point. We can do this by :
• Consistently writing to organizations, heads of corporations, Members of Parliament, radio personalities, TV personalities, royalties, schools, communities, businesses to raise awareness of plight of strays in local councils
• Sharing information and opportunities to volunteer via social networks and our network of contacts
• Sharing information and keeping watch for strays in the neighbourhood. (I print flyers in Chinese and English and distribute these to houses in the neighbourhood, whenever I see neighbors letting their dogs out without escort.)
• Encouraging our neighbours to spay their pets

Veterinary Services Department (DVS) deputy directorgeneral, Datuk Dr Ahmad Suhaimi Omar proposed that stray dogs held at pounds be sold for human consumption — as a method of stray management. This is too cruel! To even have this thought in his mind is absurd. Maybe we are not used to eating dogs but look at this link: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4p1tk_dogs-china-raw-5_animals

After seeing this link i just think it's inhumane.

Is he Muslim?
He does not know Islam prohibits eating of dogs?

Siti Ruqayyah Chan said...

What he doesn't know is NO WHERE does Allah call the dogs dirty animals or give any indication that they should be avoided or treated the way many Muslims think they should. Even in slaughtering animals for food, Islam requires that the slaughtering be done according to Islamic procedure, which is humane and aims to cause the animals as little suffering as possible. As humans, we have a responsibility towards every living creature. Mistreating animals is considered a sin in Islam. A Muslim is responsible for the care of animals so much so that an ill-treated animal will testify against the one who abused it on the Day of Judgment. I found this on the website:
1. It is NOT haraam to own a dog, though it is not hygienic to keep a dog in the house.

2. It is NOT haraam to touch a dog or any other animal. If the saliva of a dog touches you or any part of your clothing, then it is required of you to wash the body part touched and the item of clothing touched by the dog’s mouth or snout.

3. It is incumbent upon all Muslims who own animals, whether for farming or work purposes or as pets, to provide adequate shelter, food, water, and, when needed, veterinary care for their animals. Arrangements must be made, if one is going to be away from home, to have one’s animals taken care of as well.

4. It is haraam to keep a dog or any other animal on a short lead for long periods without food, water, and shelter. Dogs need exercise and are social creatures who form organized “family” structures in nature. Dog owners therefore need to spend time daily with their dogs.

5. It is cruel, and therefore haraam, to keep any animal in a cage so small that it cannot behave in a natural way.

6. Fireworks cause untold suffering to most domestic animals because of their acute sense of hearing.

7. It is haraam to participate in any blood “sport,” like dog fighting and trophy hunting.

I think there are so many things MPS had done which is Haram when they talk so great about the religion. I guess they did trophy hunting before which the contractor will earn RM30 for each stray dog they catched.

This matter will soon leads to a political, religious and racial issue in Malaysia.
