New rescue

Now that our accident victim's problem has been solved, we have another case in our hands. This beautiful dog was apparently found on the highway by Bond and his family. In spite of being Malay Muslims, they brought the dog home and one of their neighbours Christine sought our help. The dog had tumours on almost all of its teats and there were also tumours in its vagina. The vet tells us that apart from the tumour the dog appears to be very well kept and he believes that she must have been a much loved pet. He said this could also be deduced from the dogs's very happy and friendly disposition. So, we still can't understand how she ended-up on the highway. Anyway, she had her surgery this afternoon and given it was a serious one - we are hoping very hard that she'll pull through. It was a Catch 22 situation whereby if the tumours were not removed, they may turn malignant and spread. If you recognise this dog and know her owners, please tell them to come for her. We have sponsored the surgery with the help of our generous donors. We promise not to scold or lecture them. All we want is for this lady to go back to her loving human family.

Update on our accident victim

Before surgery
Our accident patient with the raptured diaphragm has been operated on and is doing very well. According to the staff at the veterinary clinic, he was up less than an hour after surgery and ate with great gusto. That's a good sign. His legs are no longer splayed and he is able to stand-up but only stands to eat. Given that his leg and thigh bones were fractured, we believe he must be feeling a little pain. We haven't operated on that yet because the hernia was far more serious than the broken bones. The vet tells us that the damage to his diaphragm was so extensive that it couldn't be completely patched-up. There's still a little piece of his liver peeking into his lungs. Anyway, that's unlikely to cause him any harm at the moment. We are now looking for a either a permanent or a foster home for him. Please contact us if anyone's interested.

ITS THREE YEARS SINCE.........

POPIKO MAIL

AUNTIE QOINKY AND I

July 31st this year marks the third death anniversary of my beloved Auntie Mimi 'Qoink' Mae. She was 12 1/2 years with my humans before succumbing to cancer. Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) took root in 2008 almost a year after Auntie Qoinky died. This was because my humans had started to actively rescue and rehome in memory of Auntie Qoinky after her death. Although I was only a seven month old puppy when Auntie Qoinky died, I remember how genteel and refined she was. She allowed my mother Frilly Lily to share her home and humans when Mumsy turned-up at their doorstep as a pregnant stray in 2006. Her memorial is at
http://www.critters.com/. We remember this fine lady on the third anniversary of her death with awe and admiration. She brought us joy when she was alive and became one of the catalysts behind the formation of MDDB after her death. Auntie Mimi 'Qoink' Mae will always be missed .

NOTE TO ADOPTERS

Dear MDDB adopters,

this is a reminder that you have to call and inform us that you are taking your pet for spaying at our panel clinics. If you recall, we explained to you that once your pet is ready for neutering you need to call us so that we can make the appointment for you. We will only forward your cards and payments to the clinic when we make the appointment for you. This helps us keep track of the adopted pets that have gone in for spaying. One of our panel clinics told us that several people have taken their dogs there for spaying saying that they were adopted from us. However, these people had not called us prior to going there. The vet declined to do it for them because we had not called him and told them to call us first. But we are yet to receive calls from these adopters. Since we are given special rates, the vets will have to know for sure that the pets are from us. So, please, please call us and allow us to make the first appointment for you.
Thanks and regards.

WE ARE NOT SURPRISED

We received a call form Selayang Municipal Council (MPS) councillor Gunaraj George asking us if we would be attending the first meeting by the council on the management of its pound and strays. We were stumped as we were not informed of the meeting. Upon investigation we found that Mr Arsehole was up to his tricks again. He had convinced the MPS Health director Dr Razif Zainol that he's the main authority and independent animal welfare groups should not be invited. He's been invited together with the SPCA. Now, we all know what Mr Putrid Arsehole is going to do - he will debunk all our hard work in exposing the cruelty and call the dog catchers and EVIL ERNIE saints. He will do this because he had told someone that being a PKR appointee, it is his responsibility to protect all agencies linked to the state government which is being led by a PKR MB. THIS IS A WARNING. In the event he does this, we will castigate none other than state executive councillor Dr Xavier Jayakumar who is apparently the one who is making Arsehole think he is invincible. We will bring the matter right up to party adviser Anwar Ibrahim. Don't think we will not do it. Arsehole does nothing for the strays nor is he a rescuer - the rescue groups are kept out from the meeting but this idiot, who obviously has his head stuck up his own posterior, wheels himself in and lies that he is an expert on strays and stray management. Arsie also better stop flagellating himself with the delusion that his Pestnegative has done so much for strays and their management. This has been proven wrong over and over again. Anyway, since we have not been invited - we will not attend. But we will continue to watch and monitor. DO NOT UNDERMINE AND DEBUNK THE EXPOSURE OF CRUELTY IN THE MPS POUND AT THE MEETING TOMORROW. WE HAVE PEOPLE WHO WILL INFORM US WORD FOR WORD WHAT YOU SAID IN THE MEETING.
AND BY THE WAY ARSIE, ITS NOT UP TO YOU TO DECIDE WHO CAN OR CANNOT ATTEND.

PLEASE SEND HIM POSITIVE VIBES

Our accident victim is now at the animal hospital in Gasing Indah, Petaling Jaya. The vet has diagnosed him as suffering from diaphragmatic hernia due to the impact of the accident. This means there is a tear in the diaphragm - which is the muscle that separates the abdominal organs from the heart and lungs. Therefore the innards are now entering his chest cavity because of the tear. He also has a fractured femur and thigh bone. According to the vet the diaphragmatic hernia surgery cannot wait. He said the femur fracture isn't serious and the bone can mend by itself whilst the thigh bone needs either a pin or a plate. He says the pin costs RM700 and the plate RM1,500 and we have to decide which one after the hernia surgery is over and done. The poor boy is weak as this is one of the effects of the hernia. He has been scheduled for the hernia operation Sunday July 18. We are desperately hoping that he'll make it. We would be very grateful if anyone living in Petaling Jaya can go and visit him at the clinic. Call 019-3576477 for details.

SOS

1) WE need volunteers to help us catch five stray puppies in Subang Jaya. These puppies are about four months old and are rather frisky. They live on an open piece of land and are exposed to rain and shine. Our friend Rena visited the spot last week and says it broke her heart to see them huddled together in the rain. Four are female and its dangerous to allow them to remain there as they must be spayed. Please help us catch them. We are trying to arrange a rescue mission this weekend. Write to us with your contact details - malaysiandogsdeservebetter@gmail.com

2) Dear people, next time you see a stray puppy - pick it up, take it home and call us. We are really saddened to hear about a stray puppy which had tried so hard not to be a stray but lost out due to lack of human compassion. A friend who helped us rescue many puppies and dogs narrated how a puppy had followed her nephew home while he was jogging. It had run about six kilometres after him. Once back home, his father had refused to allow the pup to remain there. So, the boy had to take it back where he had first seen it. We were told of the puppy and we asked them to immediately return to the place and retrieve the puppy. They went last sat only to find the puppy dead with its innards out. It must have been gored by an adult dog. We still cannot forget this puppy which had run six kilometres to find a home but failed. Please people next time you see a stray pup - take it home and call us.
