Transit Home

MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER TRANSIT HOME

Dear all,

we have finally decided that it is time we get ourselves a transit home due to the huge number of puppies we rescue almost daily.

We now have a place to keep our puppies pending adoption and this arrangement is much cheaper than having to board them at veterinary clinics.
However, we now have to ensure that we have sufficient money to pay the rental as well as the person who is taking care of the puppies and the utilities as we use a lot of water to clean-up daily.
Our monthly expenses are:

Rental RM 600

Helper's allowance RM500

Utilities (water and electricity) RM100

Therefore we have to have a steady contribution of RM1,200 in addition to having to pay the vets for vaccinations and other health complications that may arise.

Sometimes the puppies we rescue come in with severe skin disorders and this requires extra treatment.
Therefore we are appealing for a regular monthly contribution from all those who can help us. Even RM50 monthly will go a long way.

Please help us help the puppies and dogs.

Puppy Rescue

Puppy rescue

A group of concerned dog lovers has set up a half-way home for abandoned puppies.
IN conjunction with World Animal Day today, canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) is launching its shelter for destitute and abandoned puppies. The MDDB project was initiated by non-governmental organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII) last year.
CDII director Firoza Buranudeen said a shelter in Klang was urgently needed due to the large number of puppies rescued almost daily.
“We had nowhere to put them and we felt that veterinary clinics were not safe enough for unvaccinated puppies,” she said.
Since the project depends solely on donations, Firoza is appealing to the public to help out so that the shelter can continue to operate.
“Our expenses are high as we have to pay RM35 for the first vaccination for each puppy as well as veterinary care. Some of the puppies have many health problems,” she explained.
MDDB, said Firoza, also has to raise money to pay monthly rental of RM600 for the house as well as an additional RM500 monthly for the caretaker who cleans up after the pups, bathes and feeds them.
“We are currently running on our reserves which will be depleted in a week or so and we are hoping that members of the public will come to our aid,” she said.
Firoza also hopes there will be offers of sponsorship for their overhead costs. MDDB welcomes donations in kind such as rice, dog shampoo, old towels, puppy food and chew toys. She said the puppies are fed dry food in the morning and rice cooked with chicken and vegetables in the evening.
“We also need to supplement their food with vitamins – being born to stray mothers, the puppy’s immune systems are usually very weak,” said Firoza.

TRAP, NEUTER AND RELEASE (RETURN)

One of the dogs that we had trapped and neutered and subsequently released

Surgicval marking of the ears.

Hi everyone,

we are trying trying out the trap, neuter and release (return) (TNR) method to see if it will work out for us. So far our friends in Kuala Kubu Baru carried out the TNR with 10 dogs in their district and we have done two dogs in Klang.

The most important element when carrying out the TNR is the identification of controlled locations where these dogs can be released after surgery and vaccination.
Controlled locations are locations where they will be monitored and fed by residents in the vicinity.

The two female dogs in Klang have been released in an area where the residents had readily agreed to feed them daily - so that the dogs would not go elsewhere to scavenge.

Therefore, the two - will have food and a safe place until the end of their lives without giving birth to anymore puppies.

We have also surgically marked their ears for identification purposes but are considering tattooing instead, as this would stand out more clearly than the surgical marking.

To make this programme a success, we have to also enlist the help of the local councils as well as extract a promise that their dogcatchers would leave these dogs in peace.

We would also have to have discussions with local residents to secure their corporation.

But most importantly, we need to also secure funds to pay the vets who are carrying out the neutering for us.

The TNR programme has worked very well in many countries including Asian countries such as India, Nepal and Indonesia and we don't see why it can't work here.

ADOPTION DRIVE

Dear Peeps,

let me first apologise for the slow updates. We have been very busy recently but have made a resolution to regularly update this blog beginning Sept.

This is also announce our adoption drive on Sat 29th Aug at The Crest@3 Two Square in Section 19, PJ.

The event between 12.30 and 6.30 pm and is organised by e-shopping guide A Shopaholic's Den (http://www.ashopaholicsden.com/) .

The event will also feature a colourful bazaar featuring over 30 online e-shops that will gather there to sell women's clothes, shoes, bags and other accessories.

We have been told the the goods sold there are much cheaper that those sold in malls because there isn't much overhead cost involved.

So, please come and visit us so that you can shop as well as adopt some of the many puppies that we have with us currently.

We will be bringing about 20 to 30 puppies there and we hope that you will come in full force to support us as well as buy the products sold at the bazaar.

See, you there. Find attached the map as well as the brochure of the event.
