Two weeks ago we were invited by some students from KDU to participate in their Rave2Save event. They were organising a fund raising and pledged to hand the proceeds over to that established animal shelter in Ampang. We never asked them for any money - all we wanted was a venue for an impromptu adoption drive. We were happy when the students asked us to bring the 50 over pups we rescued off the streets to be put up for adoption. However, the student in charge told us a few days ago that the big organisation does not want us there because 'we give our dogs and puppies up for adoption for free while they charge for adoptions.' Apparently, the organisation had also pressured the student to keep us out and we have been told not to come. The guilt-riddled student then told us that he would make arrangements for us to bring our puppies in through Petfinder, which will be there. We declined as we didn't want to put the students through more pressure. The organisation accuses us of giving our dogs and puppies away for free - what they don't realise is that we do not place a price over the heads of the poor canines like they do. Adopters give us donations for the pups and dogs they rescue and the minimum we have received is RM5. We take whatever they give us if we find that they are capable of giving the dogs and pups a good homes, good food and veterinary care. We also make arrangements for them to neuter and vaccinate the dogs and pups they have adopted at a discounted price at our panel clinics. The adopters are also required to fill up forms and sign a contract with us promising us to take good care of their pets. The contract also allows us to confiscate the dogs and puppies if we find the adopters not keeping up to their end of the bargain. We also sponsor the first vaccination. So, pray give us your feedback - is this a case of personal egos getting in the way of helping the strays? The same thing happened when Furry Friends Farm started rescuing dogs from Pulau Ketam - nasty things were published about the sanctuary in the media by those affiliated to the organisation. Is this fair? All we want is a venue where these unfortunate puppies can be put-up for adoption. Why deny us that? Why deny the poor strays a chance to secure homes? We want to hear from you - please tell us what you think.

Dear Angels of the strays,
Do not step back.... Stand firm and stay strong... We as the publics knw and see who's the real angels and devils... Without doubt, we will forever stand at the angels side like MDDB and FFF... Those unlucky ones are lucky to meet u guys and get a second chance... Do wat u guys think its right...
Request for a meet-up face to face with the org. and present your proposal. If they refuse to let you set-up a booth for the adoption drive, ask them to give a specific reason. If the answer is not good enough, press for a reconsideration. Do not take "No" from a third party, get it straight from the horse's mouth. Good luck.
Alicia - ever since I got to know FFF, i have started to contribute to FFF every month. I will too start to contribute to MDDB . All of
you are the ones who give the stray a 2nd chance to live. Why must bother with them? should go ahead!
i am a long term spca volunter, all this politics are made from the management side (the chairperson is a b*tch)... Stand your ground, be firm. IF need, there will be many people willing to do a rally or u.
pleae give all your dogs to me. we will put them to good use.
sincerely

i truly believe that giving them for adoption is a waste of resource. Malaysian just don't know how to take care of pets unlike us Singaporeans.
be humane and just put them all to sleep. preferably by snapping their necks in half. its fast and less stressful for the pups. i learn this from my friend who is a major in the republic of Singapore army. they train to kill silently by snapping the necks of Alsatians. As a final exam each recruit must snap the neck of a dog without it barking. if the dog barks or whimpers they will be kicked out of the training camp
can i adopt a dog from you guys because i cant seem to get one from the pet shop or the SPCA shelters. i LOVE dogs and i dunno wyhy these people even called the cops when i am near their kennels..
all i did was stroke their dongs once in a while. plus dogs are naturally gifted for doggy style position. they also say all men are dogs anyway. so what's wrong with me loving a dog
please. i want a HUGE Dalmation. i want to be FILLED with love
Chan Mon Gut, you shut yr crap. Why not i come and snap you singaporeans' neck?
Some of the comments left here are actually very disturbing to read. Just like Chan's & Snoopy's, you guys are sick. But this is our society now, so what to do right.
I agree with RO, would it be possible to write a formal/open letter to ORG. Actually i think there are surely some genuine people in ORG who loves animals as we do, be it their volunteers or sponsors. Just that alot of their operations are mishandled by the management team/ pr people. For what, i don't faham also. You say reputation, it has already been tarnished after these series of events.
In general we still very far behind from having a first class world's mindset (see Chan & Snoopy as example), i guess this fight for publicity even for strays will go on. Dear Sharmini, you are doing great & you have our support.
U Yeng
snoopy lover and that singaporean nut - go to hell and leave the animals alone.
i had adopted two beatifull babies from the so called ORG. i also go there quite frequent. I know how they are. The management staff will be sitting there like they are running some kind of death chamber. they are just interested in putting the animals to sleep and dont care about them. It is so obious from their behavior.
why cant u all just behave?
FFF and MDDB, you guys are doing great job, I believe the public know where to donate their money to.
That is definitely not fair to refuse your participation over such a selfish reason.
you can't save all the dogs.. why don't you and your friends adopt some.. but just my opinion, some dogs are not worth saving.. strays are stray for a reason.. don't blame other organization for not helping out.. its not easy, try setting up your own organization..
What a rubbish shelter! Egoistic! Aren't we here to help the dogs? We're all here for the same reason, to help the dogs! WHo cares if the dogs are given away free? This has truly bad publicity for the AMPANG shelter!
stop talkin crap, if you're not interested in this forum, get lost!! what a waste of space
Dear MDDB, sorry to hear bout this..its truly heart breaking..why cant people just think about the dogs and stop all these politics..i hope you manage to get your dogs adopted! GOOD LUCK...and thanks for helping the dogs.
All dogs are worth saving...strays or no strays......
why are they strays in the first place? it is because of irreponsible owners...
We should help out as much as possible and donate if we can afford it.
Quoting from the "starfish" story - it matters to that one.
MDDB - you are doing a wonderful job. Keep up the good work. You have my support.
Don't waste time thinking about this problem anymore. Move on and keep on trying to find another venue. Trying to get the same place again may result in getting kicked out again aka wasting time. All the best. :D
And the thing is, most people don't know how to properly snap an animal's neck. And that results in agony and a horrific death. Not everyone is a soldier you know.
And snapping German Shepherd Dog necks would be a waste of resource too. Why a person would want to do that, I do not know. The lesser evil would be to kill a dog that is already half dead, but a fit, wonderful GSD for TRAINING? o.o
first of all, snapping a dog's neck is considered an ANIMAL ABUSE. just hope our country are implemented with the law to punish ppl to do things like that, as practised by some Western countries.
MDDB, you guys did a great job.

Firstly, I was at the event myself and I do realize that MDDB wasn't too happy about the arrangement. But it was something particular that happened that made me think again whether MDDB is really doing this to save the animals from the bottom of their hearts. (Volunteered said in a tone which I interpreted as bragging, said that she has 60 over more for me to choose if I really want to bring one back).
I've adopted a cat from SPCA, and he's a darling to the family now. The volunteer from SPCA who had done the adoption procedure even remembers the colour and name of my cat after 1 year.
Seriously, whoever who wrote this post should step back and take a look again on what he or she is trying to convey from this post before asking others to comment about it.
Maybe being more professional in handling such situations would contribute to a more positive growth of MDDB.
I do agree with Eve Lyn that this could be handled more professionally.
The main thing is to get the pups adopted. So get them adopted when there is a chance. So what if unprofessional people spread nasty rumours around? They aren't true, so who cares? As long as MDDB makes sure that their organization is transparent, I don't see the problem.
Go through Petfinder if you can. Don't decline. What's important isn't your pride, it's the future of the dogs.
Eve Lyn, we do not know what you are refering too. MDDB was not at the event. So, who is this volunteer whom you are talking about? And we are all about dogs and not cats? So what is this cat thing you are talking about? Would appreciate it if you could clarify.
Let's think positive and look ahead. What other ways are there to publicise the dogs and puppies that MDDB have for adoption?
Other than websites which MDDB already have, I suggest in the long-term, that MDDB rent a bungalow in the suburbs...and turn this place into a MDDB clubhouse and during weekends, dogs and puppies can be brought to this clubhouse and potential adopters can then turn up and have a chat about the possibility of adopting a dog or puppy.
Yes, there is the cost of renting a bungalow house, it can cost RM3,000 to RM4,500 a month. But that can be defrayed by renting out rooms to students and single working people and by other members of the clubhouse chipping a certain amount every month.
If there are 100 members of the clubhouse willing to chip in RM50 per month, we get RM5000 each month to pay the rent and other expenses.
So, what do all of you think? Start a MDDB clubhouse? Find the first 100 members?
It is something long-term. We can publicise the clubhouse location in newspapers and various news websites and once established, everyone knows where to go on Saturdays and Sundays to adopt a puppy or dog.
No point moaning at what the big org is doing to us. Instead, be proactive and do something else positive or at least we can try to recruit 100 members willing to give RM50 a month. I am prepared to donate at least RM50 per month.
Better suggestions anyone?
The club house is a great idea. Please write to malaysiandogsdeservebetter@gmail.com and we can start the ball rolling. Don't forget to attach your phone number.
Cheers
Hi Eve Lynn,
I understand where you are coming from. SPCA contributes in many ways to animal welfare nationally, so other animal rescue groups shouldnt be bickering with them about such petty issues.
Also, my family and I were also at the event and spoke to a lady called Christine from MDDB about adoption. One of my friends who helped organise the event said apparently, the students told MDDB firmly that they cannot participate but they were very rude and insistent on coming. They somehow managed to bring in the pups under the Petster banner. Thought that was kinda sneaky, doing things like this will only add to the image of animal rescuers being unprofessional and disorganised. I support all animal rescue groups who are working hard to help animals, but above all I also support SPCA because they are unwavering and focused, and seem to be the only org slowly gaining recognition for animal welfare in Malaysia.
u live up to ur name - Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better and i dont think anybody else can do this better than u guys.. dont give up... :)
Hi,
I am one of the students involved in the event. I would like to set the record straight. MDDB did not come to the event. We had suggested that they come under Petster but MDDB had refused saying that they would only come under their own banner. Ms Christine is an independant cat rescuer whom we invited because we wanted someone to bring cats for adoption. The puppies Ms Christine had brought with her were from Independant Pet Rescuers founder Ms Sherrina Krishnan and not MDDB's. We had badly wanted MDDB to be there because we respect their work but felt obliged to give in to the SPCA because they had taken us to Pulau Ketam. We have insisted that the SPCA gives some of the money raised at the event to MDDB. I hope I have set the record straight. Please do not make wild allegations against MDDB, they are doing a great job and the group's volunteers always go the extra mile for the dogs they rescue.
See this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj8LaGhYWCo
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xj8LaGhYWCo everyone watch
Please try your best to save all dogs! God bless you! (:
If what the student says is true...MDDB, why not go under Petster? That is a great opportunity to get the animals adopted out.
Nobody cares who's banner is who's and the main focus is to get them animals adopted out. So in the future, no one should make a fuss about this and just join in.
The students told us to go under Petstar so that the SPCA would not know we were there. We did not want to sneak in.
If you can, post in this forum the differences in Petster, SPCA and MDDB clearly so that a public evaluation can be done. Example: Procedures in adoption, Fees charged and so forth. I look forward to a reply in this forum.
all i can say is im glad that in malaysia, MDDB is here for the less fortunate dogs. please continue with your fight and one day soon hopefully,i will be calling to adopt a dog from u :)
