UPDATE - CINDERELLA (FAITH)

http://malaysiandogsdeservebetter.blogspot.com/2010/01/cindy.html
Words simply cannot describe our feelings whenever we follow-up on the development of Cinderella renamed Faith who has been adopted by Kalpana. Cinderella was spotted by Dr Chan Kah Yein of Animalcare when she rescued almost 40 dogs from the dastardly Klang Pound. However, she couldn't take Cinderella because the poor girl had a serious facial injury. But Cinderella wanted to to be rescued. We heard about her and decided to take her. Dr Chan immediately went to the pound and got Cinderella out. We warded her at one of our panel vets where she was given treatment and subsequently adopted by Kalpana. Its happy endings such this that keeps us going.

UPDATES - LESTER

We are happy to update our readers about Lester who is now happily living with Datin Jeniffer Khoo and her family. Lester became a stray after his adopters abandoned him near the Petaling Jaya Old Town market. Luckily, he had Ah Moi, who manned a stall there, feeding him. He had been on the streets several years when some jerk poured hot oil all over him. Lester was missing for about two days but went in search of Ah Moi after that. We heard about him and took Lester under our care and did the necessary. May people had told us that we should put Lester to sleep because of the gravity of his injuries. We refused because we staunchly abide by our no-kill policy. We were also encouraged to go all out to help Lester becuase he had a strong will to survive. We have been duly rewarded for that as Lester is leading a happy life now.

ADOPTION DRIVE

Adopt a puppy

PROFESSIONAL bodybuilder Terry Gallyot may be big and tough but when it comes to dogs, he’s a hardcore softie at heart.

The former 1999 Mr Asia, who is a staunch supporter of canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB), is currently very concerned about the welfare of stray dogs.

His current endorsement is a four-month old puppy named Trillion that was saved just in time before he was put to sleep at a local council pound.

Dog lover: Gallyot with Trillion

Trillion’s fate changed when MDDB rescue coordinator Irene Low had gone to the pound to ‘bail out’ several dogs that had been caught.

“Trillion rushed to the enclosure’s gate and started whining and looking at me with pleading eyes.

“When I bent down to pet him, I noticed tears in his eyes,’’ said Low who immediately saved Trillion from death and took him home to be fostered.

Trillion will be one of the puppies that will at MDDB’s adoption drive at Jaya One from 11.30am to 7.30pm on Sunday March 20.

The adoption drive will be located at Block NB1, facing Station 1 and Old Town White Coffee.

“We hope that Trillion will find a home as he deserves a loving human family,’’ said Low.

Meanwhile, MDDB adoption coordinator Christine Lai said Kota Alam Shah assmblyman M. Manoharan will host an adoption drive at his service center on Sunday, March 27 from 11am to 6pm.

The service centre is located at 7A, Persiaran Raja Muda Musa and is between the Klang traffic police contingent headquarters and Hin Hua High School.

She said those wanting to make donations to MDDB and its feline welfare counterpart Malaysian Cats Care Project (MCCP) can also drop off the dog or cat items at both venues.

Do NOT SPEAK FOR THOSE YOU DO NOT REPRESENT.

We were alerted to Petnegative Anthony Thanasayan's tweet "Don't Field Ean And Teo In Next GE, Say Animal Activists" and would like to warn him not to speak for those whom he and his cronnies do not represent. MDDB and several other real animal welfare groups - are manned by volunteers who are animal activists at every sense. They rescue, rehome as well as treat and manage cats and dogs. We do not emerge to give press conferences and issue statements only when something happens. Two articles, one in the Malaysian Chronicle and the other on Free Malaysia Today states that the memorandum submitted in parliament by Malaysian Animal Welfare Society (MAWS), Malaysian Animal Rights Society (ROAR), Petpositive, and Lawyers for Liberty against Teo Nie Ching and Ean Yong Hian Wah - is a protest by animal activists and civil society groups. These people better be informed that they only represent themselves and not animal activists whih includes us. We will be writing a strongly worded letters to the chief editors of both portals and request their reporters to be more careful when wording such articles.

OUR STAND

We have been receiving many emails asking us if we will be attending the demonstration at the DAP headquarters on March 12. We would like to say here that we will not do so because we do not want to divert the attention from the Serdang Kitten Killer. We are focused in bringing her to book and that will be our main goal. So, far the response we have received ftom the Department of Veterinary Services is very encouraging and we hope that she will be charged within the next week or two. Furthermore, its Ean Yong and Nie Ching that made the blunder and not the entire party. So far the DAP has been most supportive of us and some of its elected representatives have been sponsoring several adoption drives at their service centers for us. If any single party in the Pakatan Rakyat coalition will care to do something for the welfare of animals especially dogs, it will definitely be the DAP and not PKR or PAS. We will be arranging a dialogue with Ean Yong and Nie Ching where they will be told that they had behaved irresponsibly and idiotically by protecting the Serdang Kitten Killer.
We are also disassociating ourselves from the demonstration because it is being organized by several people who have strong links with PKR and one of its leaders Dr Xavier Jayakumar. This group is also involved in the CAT committee and have not done anything to counter the gross abuse of dogs by the local councils that we have been desperately highlighting. Hannah Yeoh also from the DAP had gone to organize a dialogue with Dr Xavier about a year ago on the plight of strays in the pound and even though we had handed over a proposal to him, nothing has been done thus far.
Matter of fact some of the main people at this proposed Sunday gathering has even gone to the extent of defending the pounds.
We condemn any form of selective persecution.
These are also the very same people who are targeting dog owners in their supposed countering of the stray population by even having gone on house to house inspections. This we, strongly believe, will result in those having more than the number of dogs they can keep, dumping their pets. This move also causes a lot of problems for rescuers and fosterers who have more than one pet at their homes at any one time.
Having said all this, we hope our friends will understand why we will not be participating. We would not have posted this if personal attacks and allegations had not leveled against us by a couple of people who made a sudden appearance and demanded that we attend the demonstration.
However, we will participate if a demo is held outside the Selangor state secretariat demanding that Dr Xavier together with all the other executive councilors and Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim take immediate measures to rectify the situation in the pounds.
We can also all collectively demand that the money used to pay the dog catchers can be utilized to launch the Trap-Neuter-Release-Manage method.
If only the group that is organizing this Sunday’s event is prepared to organize the same at the state secretariat – We would be eternally grateful to them. But will they?
Thank you and please see links for info on the pound atrocities.
