MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER (MDDB) will lodge a police report against the poodle abusers at the Petaling Jaya district police headquarters at 7.00pm today. Directions to police station. Turn into the PJ Hilton. The hotel must be on your left. Just after PJ Hilton you will come to a traffic light, turn right, go straight until you come to a T-Junction - turn left and you can see the police station. See you there at 7.00pm.

This girl whose siblings have all been adopted is still available. She has been vaccinated and spayed.

MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER (MDDB) WILL BE HAVING AN ADOPTION DRIVE AT SUMMIT SUBANG JAYA THIS SUNDAY.

MDDB is desperately seeking homes for the many puppies and dogs under its care. The rescue group hopes those looking for pets will visit the adoption drive and provide loving homes for puppies and dogs there on that day.

Rocky-the-dog may only have three legs but his enthusiasm for life overcomes his disability.

Rocky will be among the 15 dogs and puppies that will be put up for adoption by MDDB this Sunday at Jaya1.

MDDB will also have another adoption drive at Summit Subang Jaya the following Sunday.

WE MEAN BUSINESS

THE SO-CALLED CANINE ADVISORY COUNCIL WHICH CLAIMS TO LOOK INTO THE WELFARE OF STRAYS IS ORGANISING DOG CATCHING SPREES IN TANDEM WITH LOCAL COUNCILS. IT IS HAPPENING IN KLANG.. WE WERE ALERTED OF THIS BY AN ANIMAL ACTIVIST.

ANY COMMITTEE WHICH PRIDES ITSELF OF TAKING CARE OF ANIMAL WELFARE MUST NOT INVOLVE ITSELF IN DOG-CATCHING ACTIVITIES.

THE PERSON WHO HAS ORGANISED THIS EVENT HAD GONE ON A DOG CATCHING SPREE IN PETALING JAYA LAST YEAR AND HAD INVITED PAWS TO GO ALONG.

PAWS HAD TURNED DOWN THE INVITATION.

WE HAVE PROPOSED THAT A CANINE PROTECTION COUNCIL - MADE-UP OF ANIMAL ACTIVISTS, RESCUERS AND SHELTERS BE SET UP TO REPLACE CAT.

PLEASE WRITE TO AND DEMAND FOR THE COMMITTEE TO BE DISBANDED.

WE GONE ON OUR ROUNDES IN KLANG LATE LAST NIGHT AND FOUND SEVERAL FEEDERS STANDING AROUND LOOKING TROUBLED. THEIR COLONIES OF DOGS WERE ALL MISSING. WE SUSPECT THAT THEY WERE CAUGHT BY THIS DOG CATCHING SPREE. THESE DOGS ARE NOT A NUISNACE AND ONLY COME OUT AT NIGHT. SHOPKEEPSRS IN THE AREA THAT ALSO FEED THE DOGS; SAY THE CANINES HAD KEPT THEIR PREMISES SAFE FROM BREAK-INS. SOME OF THE MISSING DOGS HAVE BEEN SPAYED.
WE WERE ALSO INFORMED BY A FORMER CAT COMMITTEE MEMBER THAT THE KLANG DOG CATCHERS HAVE HURT AND MAIMED MANY DOGS BUT THE CAT COMMITTEE HAD COVERED THE MATTER-UP.
THIS IS DESPICABLE.

IF MEMBERS OF THE COMMITTEE PERSIST WITH THEIR FOLLY - THEY JUST HAVE TO REMEMBER THAT THE REVIEW PERIOD FOR COUNCILLORS IS UP THIS JUNE. WE WILL CAMPAIGN TO ENSURE THAT COUNCILLORS INVOLVED IN THIS GRISSLY DOG CATCHING EXERCISE ARE NOT RE APPOINTED

HERE IS WHAT YOU CAN DO TO HELP.

CONTACT THESE ORGANISATIONS AND TELL THEM ABOUT THE ILL-TREATMENT OF ANIMALS IN THE LOCAL COUNCIL POUNDS AND HOW THE CAT COMMITTEE PROTECTS THESE COUNCILS. TELL THEM THAT THE CAT COMMITTEE WHICH IS ALSO MADE-UP OF ANIMAL WELFARE GROUPS IS GOING WITH THE LOCAL COUNCILS ON DOG CATCHING SPREES.
TELL THEM THAT THE CAT COMMITTEE IS ALL FOR EUTHANASIA AND AGAINST TRAP NEUTER AND RELEASE.
THAT THE CAT COMMITTEE THROWS SPANNERS INTO THE WORK DONE BY INDEPENDENT RESCUE GROUPS.

The Klang Pound fiasco

The Klang Municipal Council is at it again soon after the Pulau Ketam fiasco. This time around they have sent their dog catchers on a rampage to catch dogs several times a day including at night.

The dog catchers are paid an allowance of RM 10 for every dog caught in addition to their monthly salaries as MPK employees. As a result many many pet dogs have been detained and taken to the MPK pound in Bandar Sultan Sulaiman.

Now, in order for such massive dog catching operations to be carried out, the pound must have the proper infrastructure such as an isolation bay, quarantine area as well as separate holding areas for pets and strays.

When dogs are stressed, deadly infections such as distemper, parvo and corona sets in. These infections are deadly and very very contagious.

Picture this:
An pet owner comes to the pound to ‘bail out’ his dog which had been placed in the cage with many other dogs, some of them infected with these deadly viruses. Of course, the pet dog has a 90 percent chance of infection.

The owner takes the dog back and he has other dogs at home. All of them will also be infected and the infection will also quickly spread to pets owned by anyone who visits the home as well as other dogs in the vicinity. What results next is a pandemic of massive proportions.

Those managing and running the operations at the MPK haven’t the faintest idea what these viruses are but yet go on cramming the pound with countless dogs daily. When queried they say they are acting because of numerous complaints by Klang residents.

But Klang residents also complain about potholes, overgrown bushes, clogged drains and restaurants located in houses, as well as many other things – but nothing has ever been done about these things.
I know – I am after all a Klang resident.
To make matters worse – there is no budget in their dog catching antics for food and so the dogs are being starved. Some appear to have died of starvation. Several NGOs including us have dispatched dog biscuits but how long can we do this?

Don’t they know that they have to make provisions for food when embarking on such a big blood-thirsty enterprise?
Anyway, another NGO My Animal Care has rescued almost 36 dogs from the pound and sent them off to a sanctuary. They have also given us 21 puppies and 2 dogs. Eight of the 21 puppies tested positive for distemper, corona and parvo viruses. This has proven our fears that the clueless MPK folks are cross contaminating dogs indiscriminately.

There are now being cared for by us and our fosterers. We are desperately hoping that the rest are safe. The second batch of puppies brought in by MyAnimalCare were so traumatized that they were ferocious and behaved like gremlins.

They will need a lot of time before they feel safe being around people. They bit the vet as well as her assistant who were testing them for the viruses. Can’t the Pakatan Rakyat do something? Are they so bloody weak that they have no control over the local councils? Or is that because they don’t give a rat’s posterior about these dogs which are deemed defiling?

Whatever it is Selangor is supposed to be a developed state – what’s the point of being a developed state when the local councils are still so very neanderthal ? And ideal situation would be for the local council to have educational programmes in tandem with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to educate the people of Klang on pet care and the importance to neuter. They should also emabrk on the TrapNeuterAndRelease/Manage (TNR/TNM) programme to battle the stray problems. If it can work in Indonesia, India and nepal so well - it should work very very well in a developed state like Selangor.

NOV Adoption Drive

The Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better adoption drive will be held at the Summit Subang Jaya - near the Starbucks enterance point - from 11.00am to 7.00pm on Sunday. More than a dozen puppies and adult dogs will be available for adoption.

Well-wishers who want to donate in kind can also bring contributions in kind such as rice, dog and puppy food, shampoo, and old towels to the adoption drive.

Charity gig by band of lawyers for canine welfare project

BESIDES sharing a common interest in law, friends Mohd Izral Khairy, Clarence Chua, Gregory Ling, Philip Pua and Mark Ho also shared a passion for playing musical instruments and singing.
So the five lawyers got together and did what they thought was the right thing to do – they formed a band. Today the band Thin Izzy not only performs at private gigs but also for charitable events.
“Our first gig together for charity was at the KL Bar Charity Night in 2005 and we have not looked back since,’’ said Mohd Izral.
He said the band played a wide repertoire of music but their favourite genre was rock.
“But that doesn’t mean we only play rock numbers as our performance also includes pop, soul and funk,’’ said Mohd Izral who plays the bass guitar.
Meanwhile, Gregory said all of Thin Izzy’s members grew up on a staple of 80’s music and this was also reflective in what they played.
Their latest charity gig will be at Finnegans Pub in Bangsar tomorrow where the group will perform in aid of the Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) canine welfare project.
“For me getting involved in charitable events is good. Furthermore, dogs are man’s best friend and how can we turn our back on them?,’’ said Gregory.
The band will start playing at 9.30pm.
Pub manager Celestine Sanyom said RM5 from the sale of each plate of fish & chips as well as RM3 from the sale of every bottled beer would go to MDDB.
“There will also be a lucky draw as well as free tickets for the EPL All Star show at Stadium Putra, Bukit Jalil on Nov 22 to those who donate to MDDB,’’ he added.
The MDDB team will also be there with their canine volunteers to meet the patrons.

We will be bringing 20 more of our puppies which have been vaccinated and dewormed for adoption. The adoption drive starts at 11.00am and ends at 7.00pm. Adopters will receive free dog food samples and children will be entertained by Jelly the Clown who will be giving away ballons.We will be stationed at the enterance of the mall near the Starbucks Cafe and we hope many people will come to adopt our puppies.
