It’s kitty’s day out!

GIVEN the success of its canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB), non-governmental organisation Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII) will launch its welfare programme for cats tomorrow.
The event, which will be held at the entrance of Summit Subang Jaya from 11am to 7pm, will also feature a charity food sale and entertainment. The Malaysian Cat Care Project (MCCP) is set to do for cats what MDDB does for dogs.
CDII director Firoza Burhanudeen said her organisation decided to start MCCP due to the plight of stray cats on the streets.
“We are planning to trap and neuter them before releasing them,’’ said Firoza.
She said it would be easier to find people to manage neutered cats as opposed to managing neutered dogs.
Firoza said many cats and kittens which had been rescued by the organisation over the past year would be put up for adoption at the launch.
She added that CDII was also happy that footwear company Crocs had come in to help MCCP kick off the project.
“Crocs partnership with MCCP is from Sept 1 to the end of December and we are excited at the prospect,’’ said Firoza.
The company will sponsor shoes and T-shirts for all volunteers, vouchers for those who adopt a cat from MCCP or a dog from MDDB, and bags for adopters.
“Although the official partnership begins in September, Crocs will be participating in our soft launch this Sunday,’’ said Firoza.
Under the sponsorship programme, Crocs will also place a collection box in all 24 Crocs Concept Stores. Customers who donate a minimum of RM5 to MCCP and MDDB will receive a free Jibbitz charm to decorate their Crocs shoes.
There will also be a symbolic handover of sponsorship programme between CDII and Crocs at the adoption drive.
Firoza said MCCP and MDDB also looked forward to receiving contribution in cash and kind to help the organisation continue with its mission.

Launch of Malaysian Cats Care Project (MCCP)

Community Development and Integration Initiative (CDII) will launch its feline welfare project this Sunday, Aug 15 at the Summit Subang Jaya from 11.00am to 7.00pm. Named Malaysian Cats Care Project (MCCP) this feline chapter will do for cats what Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) does for dogs. Renowned footwear company Crocs has partnered with MCCP until Dec on this project and their sponsorship also includes gifts for adopters and donors. Although the partnership only begins in Sept, Crocs representatives will be there this Sunday to officially seal the agreement. There will also be a charity food sale by the Lioness Club of Subang Jaya to raise funds for both MDDB and MCCP. Besides this there visitors would also be entertained with some music and dance routines. There will also be hordes of cats, kittens, puppies and dogs for adoption at the event.

Lady 2 feeling relaxed after acupuncture treatment

Now that Ginger's case has been settled, we have another lady to worry about. We rescued this lady, who was an accident victim, some two months ago. She is now in need of acupuncture and physiotherapy. The acupuncturist Dr Susanna says she would do better in a home surrounding with high protein food such as boiled meat and organs. She is currently at a veterinary clinic in Subang Jaya. Dr Susanna also says that Lady 2's prognosis is quite good. The acupuncturist and physiotherapist also need to visit her at least twice a week. Given this, we are desperately looking for a foster home for her. One of our benefactors has offered to pay the fosterer who takes her in RM1,000 a month for taking care of her. MDDB will provide the rice, meat and whatever is needed for her as well. Please let us know if anyone is interested, Lady 2 desperately needs a temporary home to get better.

WE ARE HAPPY

We are happy to say that this lady's human family has finally been reunited with her. He name is apparently Ginger and she is over seven years old. Her family believes that Ginger had run after one of their cars into the LDP without being noticed. That's when Bond must have seen and taken her home. Ginger's surgery has been completed and all her tumours removed 8 days ago. According to her family, the vet they had gone to had advised them not to put Ginger through surgery. That was not a very good decision. Anyway, Ginger's family say that she had turned-up at their gate in Subang Jaya seven years ago and had refused to leave. She was already an adult then and so her actual age is not known. She became a part of the family and is much loved by them. We are glad things turned out well and Ginger is one lucky lady to have found her family. Not all dogs are that lucky. Get well soon Ginger.

ADOPTION DRIVE

MALAYSIAN DOGS DESERVE BETTER will host its monthly adoption drive at the Summit Subang Jaya on Sunday, Aug 8. We'll be there from 11.00am to 7.00pm. A large number of rescued puppies would be put-up for adoption this time around as well. Rocky, who was rescued by Eugene would also be there at the drive. Eugene is desperately looking for a family that would take Rocky in. Rocky was rescued after he was run over by a motorcycle several months ago. One of Rocky's front paw has some permanent damage but the 9-month old puppy is not debilitated by it. We have also some very cute puppies with us. Those wanting to donate rice, dry and canned cat, dog, puppy and kitten food, old newspapers, cages, detergent, bleach, dog and cat shampoo as well as towels can drop them off at the adoption drive. New rescue

Now that our accident victim's problem has been solved, we have another case in our hands. This beautiful dog was apparently found on the highway by Bond and his family. In spite of being Malay Muslims, they brought the dog home and one of their neighbours Christine sought our help. The dog had tumours on almost all of its teats and there were also tumours in its vagina. The vet tells us that apart from the tumour the dog appears to be very well kept and he believes that she must have been a much loved pet. He said this could also be deduced from the dogs's very happy and friendly disposition. So, we still can't understand how she ended-up on the highway. Anyway, she had her surgery this afternoon and given it was a serious one - we are hoping very hard that she'll pull through. It was a Catch 22 situation whereby if the tumours were not removed, they may turn malignant and spread. If you recognise this dog and know her owners, please tell them to come for her. We have sponsored the surgery with the help of our generous donors. We promise not to scold or lecture them. All we want is for this lady to go back to her loving human family.

Update on our accident victim

Before surgery

Our accident patient with the raptured diaphragm has been operated on and is doing very well. According to the staff at the veterinary clinic, he was up less than an hour after surgery and ate with great gusto. That's a good sign. His legs are no longer splayed and he is able to stand-up but only stands to eat. Given that his leg and thigh bones were fractured, we believe he must be feeling a little pain. We haven't operated on that yet because the hernia was far more serious than the broken bones. The vet tells us that the damage to his diaphragm was so extensive that it couldn't be completely patched-up. There's still a little piece of his liver peeking into his lungs. Anyway, that's unlikely to cause him any harm at the moment. We are now looking for a either a permanent or a foster home for him. Please contact us if anyone's interested.
