MURDERERS!

It came to our attention that the so-called CAT committee (Canine Advisory Team) held a get together for dog catchers to show them how to make their dog catching sprees more effective.
The dogs catchers were also termed as being noble by the head honcho of the spree who heads an NGO for people with special needs. (We would like to know is this NGO represents people with special needs or is an animal welfare group?)
The honcho also lambasted animal rescuers and feeders and said dog catching was necessary to make the streets safe. He called the dog catchers unsung heroes and said the session with CAT was a platform for them to go on their dog catching spree more effectively.
They had also brought someone to show the dog catchers how to trick the poor canines and lure them to death with food such as chicken bits. More stupid statements were also made with the dog catchers saying that life as strays were not worth living.
Meanwhile, the honcho also said the MDDB was circulating lies by saying that PAWS did not want to participate in its dog catching sprees. We we informed of this by people in PAWS. Why did they not attend the recent spree in Klang if they felt it was ok to do so? Pray tell how many CAT events has PAWS attended? Isn't it telling that only SPCA and the honcho's organisation for the disabled were they only participants in addition to two local councils?
Where are the other rescue groups?
We also spoke to Klang MP Charles Santiago who informed us that over 40 calls, SMS and emails were made and sent to MPK acting health director Zul Abas to discuss about the unnecessary catching of dogs in Klang which also included people's pets.
(MDDB had also caught the dogs roaming around looking for dogs after office hours and we were told that they were doing it to obtain overtime.
This is uncalled for. )
Coming back to the Klang MP, Mr Santiago told MDDB that he had also called Zul personally on many occasions but Zul had been avoiding him with the excuse that he is busy. This is insolence of the highest order i.e to deny your MP a meeting.
It is clear now that rogue dog catching outfits are hiding behind the so-called CAT (which only represents two groups and one of it is not even an animal welfare group) committee which is encouraging them to go out and kill dogs. More so the committee does not understand nor is endorsing the TNR system. HAs time finally come to push for the removal of certain local councillors? Your comments please.

CHEENAPOP - Exhausted After Praying Very Hard

Dear Peeps,
My apologies for being silent for quite a while. I have been very busy thinking of strategies to help MDDB counter the many problems we face. Strategizing can be very tiring as it involves a lot of brainwork and I am mentally exhausted at the end of each working day. My sister Shalini ‘Cheenapop’ Kiki-Mae has also been busy praying as she is a very spiritual four-legged individual. She confided in me that she is praying for the local councils to show some compassion for us dogs, as they are the country’s biggest animal abusers. On another matter, I would also like to urge members of the public to help MDDB when they chance upon stray puppies and dogs in need of help. Usually they expect MDDB to immediately go to the spot and pick-up the doggies and puppies the moment they call. This is not possible as all MDDB members have fulltime jobs and some even have second jobs to help them fund their rescue activities. So, please help them by taking the doggies and puppies home first or better still - foster them until our monthly adoption drive. We will provide food, cages and veterinary care while they are being fostered. Secondly, MDDB has no power or authority to confront owners who mistreat their animals. So, please do not demand we do this and then castigate the poor two-legged when there is no positive response from the evil owners. My human underlings in MDDB have also reported to me that we are in the red after paying for brother Lester’s medical bill. So, please kind people – send your loose change our way as we have many more dogs in need of help. Lastly, please also send positive energy our way so that Cheenapop’s marathon prayer sessions are not in vain.
Woof, Woof

Group: Don’t exploit animals
By MARTIN CARVALHO and JASON LIOH
malacca@thestar.com.my

MALACCA: A group of animal lovers plan to gather at a well-known resort in Alor Gajah here on Saturday to create awareness about the abuse of tigers and other wildlife by unscrupulous parties in the country.

The group, which created a Facebook page named Stop Animal Abuse A Famosa, had recently put the word out on the Internet urging animal lovers to voice their dissatisfaction over treatment of animals.

Dewgem Yen, one of the four creators of the Facebook page, said they were not targeting the resort over the recent claims of abuse of one of its tigers.

“We want to create greater awareness that wild animals should not be exploited for profit.

“It is not just about the tigers but the treatment of our wild animals in general,” she said, when contacted.

The Facebook page had sent out about 1,500 invitations so far with 71 indicating their interest to attend the gathering.

When contacted, A Famosa Resort general manager Allan Chee said they were aware of the gathering.

“We welcome them to take a tour of our safari to see for themselves how our animals are kept and treated,” he said, adding that the move was a sincere gesture to show that their animals were not abused as alleged.

He clarified that the safari had stopped using two of its tigers for photography sessions with patrons since April.

“The tiger that appeared in the Feb 18 video on YouTube was used only to usher in the Tiger Year during Chinese New Year festivities here.

“We stopped doing it after being advised by the Wildlife Department officers who carried out a spot check here,” he said.

He added the resort only became aware of the issue on May 19 when it received ten emails complaining of animal abuse.

Meanwhile, Malacca Society Against the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals (SPCA) president Vincent Low lauded the move by the wildlife authorities to advise the resort to stop its tiger photography sessions.

He also urged the resort to ensure that their animal handlers were professionally trained.

The 500ha resort recently became embroiled in controversy when a YouTube video titled Tiger Being Abused For Money surfaced in February depicting what seemed to be a drugged tiger being forced to pose for photographs.

PLEASE GIVE THEM A HOME

Dear People,

these three puppies were rescued from the Selayang Pound. They had gone through much but are hale and hearty now. They are still in a veterinary clinic in Subang Jaya and it breaks our hearts to see them locked-up. They need to be adopted and loved and we would truly be grateful if you or someone you knew would give them a good home. Call 019-3576477 if you can give these brave pups a good home and the love they deserve.

Requiem

Kramer when he first came to us

Its really raining daggers for us at MDDB. Our golden boy Kramer died on the operating table this morning during surgery. Kramer was born with one normal testicle and one testicle which was growing inside.
He was scheduled for the surgery as the vet opined that the testicle which was inside could become infected or turn cancerous as he grows-up. He was also to be castrated during the surgery as our Kramer had grown-up and started to experience the instinct to mate. According to the vet Dr Edmond, his blood pressure started plummeting and in spite of adrenaline being administered, Kramer's heart gave out.
We are all shocked, especially his dedicated fosterers Irene and Kay, as our Kramer had been a healthy and robust boy. We asked for a post-mortem to be done and the vet found a growth which was attached to his heart and it was bleeding.
The growth is now in a jar in Dr Edmond's clinic. This is a huge tragedy for us given that Dumex also passed away several days ago. An X-ray also showed that she had ball-shaped growth inside of her as well as an enlarged heart.
Irene and Kay, we are certain, are devastated as they had taken great pains to ensure that Kramer was not affected by his disability.
One of our friends Kevin is also currently in Thailand visiting a pet products and good dealer to look into a set of custom-made wheels for our Kramer. We had his life planned out for him and this had to happen.
Whenever a puppy or dog, that we rescue dies, our hearts shatter into a million pieces, tears are shed and excruciating pain is felt. All of us then ask ourselves, how much longer can we take this pain that comes with losing these innocent souls.
Dear Kramer, rest in peace. This dastardly dog-hating place was never meant for one as beautiful as you.
Thank you Irene and Kay for loving Kramer and giving him a good home.
We would also like to thank Norbert and Rasika who had offered to pay for Kramer's medical bills. However, he was never even once sick and had to go to the vet when and after the offer had been made.
